Florence Leggio Obituary

florence (grubel) leggio, 85 ROCKFORD - Florence (Grubel) Leggio, 85, died April 22, 2010, in Tucson, Ariz., after a short illness. Born Oct. 2, 1924, in Rockford, daughter of William and Anne Grubel. Married Ignatius "Iggy" Leggio on June 18, 1949. Graduated from Muldoon High School and received her RN degree from a nursing school in Chicago. She was director of nursing at the former Riverside Manor Nursing Home and later worked for VNA. Longtime member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Rockford but later became a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Tucson. Florence spent her life both professionally and personally being of service to others. She found joy in life which radiated to those around her. She was a true testimony of her faith. Survivors include daughter, Jacqueline (Jack) Gesner of Winnebago; son, John "Bill" (Sonia) Leggio of Tucson; grandchildren, Jonathan, Daniel (Ingrid) and Matthew Rumore, Jaclyn and Nicholas Leggio; stepgrandchildren, Kelly (Michael) Lundin, Eric Stoltz, Ryan (Renata) Gesner, Joshua Gesner, Jamie (Nichole) Gesner and Matthew Galaviz; great-grandchildren, Jaden and Caleb Rumore, Sasha, Dylan and MaKenzie Gesner and Christopher and William Lundin; and faithful companion, her dog, Ellie. Predeceased by parents; husband; sisters, Mae Annon and Sophie Kalin; and stepgrandson, Kent Gesner. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, graveside at west end, St. Joseph's section of Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Father Sam Guagliardo officiating.
