Florence Swanson Obituary

FLORENCE ANN SWANSON, 80 ROCKFORD - Florence Ann Swanson, 80, of Rockford, peacefully passed to heaven on Monday Feb. 9, 2009, in OSF Saint Anthony Med-ical Center, with her husband, Richard, daughter, Wendy and her husband, Dick, by her side. Born in Rockford on Oct. 22, 1928, to Anthony Stelma and Laura Phillips Stelma Lundine. Graduated from East High School in 1947, and married Richard R. Swanson on June 26, 1948, in Rockford. Their daughter, Wendy Ann, was born Sept. 20, 1953, in Portsmouth, Va., where Richard was stationed in the U.S. Navy. Florence loved being a wife and mother, and enjoyed working in her yard and reading. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Miriam Circle. Survivors include husband, Richard; daughter, Wendy Ann (Dick) Barton; sisters-in-law, Jo Stelma and Gloria Swanson; and six nephews. Predeceased by her parents; infant daughter, Gail Sue; brother, Roger Stelma; and Suzy Dog. Florence's family would like to give an extra thanks for the loving care she received from Linda, Nicole, Bee Bee and Tiffany, in the CCU Unit at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, as well as the supportive care of Sheri and Amy. Service at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, with the Rev. Brent Dahlseng, Grace Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in the funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the family. I am so sorry to read that Florence passed. I met Richard and Florence when they called me to sell their home. I enjoyed her company and sense of humor. I was so pleased when I ran into them at restaurants or visited them at their new home. My sympathy on the loss of a very special lady.

With "mom" having passed away it is as if we who loved her for sooo many years have lost a real part of ourselves. I'll miss knowing that she was there, even though so far away from me physically, our hearts were knit together. Our continual thoughts, prayers, and love goes out to the rest of my family.

My "other" mother will be greatly missed - even not seeing her as often as I wanted she was always in my thoughts and prayers. Time on this earth is so short - I know she is now with my mom and dad and they are all watching over the rest of us.
My love goes to Dick, Wendy Ann and Dick. Hugs, Jeri Lou and Bill, too.
