Geanelle Schultz Obituary

GEANELLE I. SCHULTZ ROCKFORD - Geanelle I. Schultz died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, in her home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 1, 1929, in York, Neb., the daughter of Lawrence and Julia Sundberg. She married her high school sweetheart, John, on Aug. 29, 1948. She was a great wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. Some of her happiest times were holidays, when she had the whole family around. Her biggest role was as a homemaker, but she was also a great seamstress and worked at So-Fro for many years. Survived by husband, John; children, Steve (Debbie) Schultz, Sue (Jack) McCarren, both of Rockford, Sandy Kirk of North Carolina and Ray (Rose) Schultz of Rockford; grandchildren, John and Krista Schultz, Nikki (Jarrod) Nowling, Carrie (Chad) Eklund, Julie (Eric) Christiansen, all of Rockford and Michael and Matt Mazur and Alex Kirk of North Carolina; and six great-grandchildren and one on the way. Predeceased by parents; brother, Vance; and brother-in-law, Ray Schultz. Geanelle's family would like to thank the staff of East Bank and Transitions Hospice for everything they did for her. You were wonderful. Very special thanks go out to Nikki Nowling and Melissa Hendren for all the great care you gave her. We could never have been able to keep her at home where she wanted to be without you. There's a very special place in heaven for both of you. Service at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, in Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 8800 N. Alpine Road, with visitation from 1 p.m. to time of service; Chaplain Joe Militello will officiate. No flowers please. Memorials can be sent to East Bank Center, 6131 Park Ridge Road, Loves Park, IL 61111 or Transitions Hospice, 6801 Spring Creek Road, Suite 2C, Rockford, IL 61107.

I know your Mom's in a better place and she is with my Mom as well. Growing up together on Gardiner Ave was such a great time in our lives and your parents were always there as such wonderful friends to all of us, in the hard times and the good times. Your Mom was a dear lady and she will be missed for her humor and I'll always remember her smile and laugh. Stay close to each other, you will need each other as much as we have all needed each other since our Mom died in September. I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the services but you are in my thoughts and prayers.
