Gerald Delaney

GERALD H. DELANEY, 90 FORT COLLINS, CO - Gerald H. DeLaney, 90, of Fort Collins passed away at home in his favorite chair on March 13, 2014. He was born on June 6, 1923 to Henry and Maude DeLaney in Rockford, Illinois. He attended school in Rockford and graduated from Rockford East High School in 1941. He began working for Woodward Governor the day after he graduated. Gerald was inducted into the Army on Feb. 8, 1943. He served stateside for two years, attending Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin for nine months, after which time he was sent to the Signal Corps in Missouri for training. He served in France before being discharged on Feb. 12, 1946. He married Mary J. Billstrom on June 26, 1943, in Ripon, Wisconsin. They had three daughters, Kathleen, Kristine and Gail. Gerald's wife passed away in June 1993, and his daughter, Kathleen, passed away in February 2002. Gerald was transferred with Woodward Governor from Rockford to Fort Collins in September 1967. He worked in Engineering and Sales for 25 years. He retired on October 1, 1986. He enjoyed collecting stamps for 50 years and also enjoyed traveling, which included going to Europe eleven times. He also enjoyed playing pinochle at the Fort Collins Senior Center where he met Carol Searle. They were married on November 6, 2004. Gerald is survived by his wife, Carol DeLaney of Fort Collins; daughters, Kristine (David) Engquist, Gail (Mark) Amundson; grandchildren, Marci Damiano, Nancy Howes, Jennifer Cole, Noah Busse, Kenneth Clark, Kerry Clark, Corinna Goff and Richard Albee; thirteen great-grandchildren, three step children, and one step grandchild. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary DeLaney; daughter, Kathleen St. Clair; and grandson, Chad Busse; Interment will be in Rockford, IL next to his wife of 50 years.
