Gordon Erickson Obituary

Gordon E. Erickson, 81 Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather ROCKFORD - Gordon E. Erickson, 81, of Rockford died at 1:48 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born April 29, 1929, in Rockford, the son of Erick B. and Alice A. (Crist) Erickson. He married Joan B. Runberg on Oct. 17, 1953, in Rockford. Gordon was a co-owner of Erickson Tool & Machine. He was a member of First Evangelical Free Church, serving his church faithfully for many years. Gordon was proud of his Swedish heritage and greeted many people that way. He was a member of the Swedish Historical Society, was an avid golfer and skier, and enjoyed his winters in San Diego. Family and friends enjoyed his great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Paula (Ed) Dawson of San Diego and Bob (Penny) Runberg of Dubuque, Iowa; grandchildren, Kyle, Conor, Josh (Theresa), Chris, Travis, Heidi, Matt and Heather; great-grandchildren, Grace and Carter; brother, Leland (Gert) Erickson of Rockford; daughter-in-law, Karla Erickson; sisters, Sharon (Wendell) Anderson of Byron and Crystal (Mike) Schachterle of Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Lois Sandberg and Mary Lou (Ralph) Carlson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son, Chuck. The family would like to thank the staff at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center for their loving care of Gordon. Service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, in First Evangelical Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Road, with visitation from noon to 12:45 p.m. The Rev. Wes Engstrom and the Rev. Chuck Rife will officiate. Burial at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Arlington Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Evangelical Free Church or Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, 3470 N. Alpine Road, Rockford, IL 61114.
