Herb Streed Obituary
Arthur H. Streed, 91, of Rockford, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017, in his home. He was born November 23, 1925, in Rockford, the son of Arthur G. and Jennie (Christiansen) Streed. Herb married Margaret Jean Lamont on October 28, 1950, in Rockford. He graduated from East High School, Class of 1944. Herb was a Navy veteran serving in the North Atlantic during WWII. He worked for J.L. Clark as a tool and die maker for 43 years before retiring. Herb was a member of New Milford United Methodist Church and the LLL Club. He was also a volunteer with the New Milford Fire Department and an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Herb enjoyed fishing and traveling but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially watching his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. Survivors include his children, David (Mimi) Streed of Rockford, Mary (Carlton) Swain of Belvidere and Dale (Mary Jeanne) Streed of Belvidere; daughter-in-law, Teresa Streed of Caledonia; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife, Margaret Jean; infant son, Danny; son, Daryl; step-sisters, Mildred Hopkins and Florence Lupont.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, 61108, with Pastor Vickie Hadaway of Cherry Valley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017, and from 10 a.m. Monday until time of service at the funeral home. My sincere condolences to the entire Streed Family! Dale was always the "life of the party" and a very nice person. Another of the New Milford crowd has passed. RIP Dale!!

A gentleman, a friend, a neighbor....across the street my whole childhood. Herb was very patient when Jean gave him her honey-do list. Painted the house twice one summer because Jean thought the color "just wasn't right"! He and my father, Ken, were the best of friends. And Ken's been waiting 25 years for Herb to complete the foursome for cards. Herb and Jean, Ken and Dorothy built their homes in the early 1950's and never looked back. The kids played baseball 'til dark, only heading home at the sound of a whistle. When I think of my childhood, the Streed's are right up front. My thoughts and prayers to all the kids,,,David, Mary and Dale...from your childhood friend,Sue Ann.

My dad and his wife lived next door to Herb for40 years in New Milford. In April 2011 my husband and I bought my Dad and Mom's house. Herb was a wonderful neighbor. He would stand at thefence between our yardsand chat for hours. We have so missed him since he moved away.
