Joan Kusler Obituary
Joan Marie Kusler, 80, of Loves Park entered into eternal rest Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Born December 16, 1936, in Rockford, the daughter of Armour and Fern (Rogers) Ostrom. Graduated from Rockford East High School and St. Anthony School of Nursing in 1957. Married Clyde D. Kusler on June 11, 1960, in Rockford. Employed by Rockford Health Systems for 20 years. Member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and the Red Hat Society. She helped establish Northern Illinois Hospice. Avid Chicago Cubs fan. Joan enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren's sporting events. Survivors include her husband, Clyde; sons, Jeff (Kathy) Kusler and Kyle (Sheila) Kusler; grandchildren, Stephen, Mackenzie, Cory and Whitney; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; and brother, Roger Ostrom. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Rockford Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion.
Service at 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1829 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. All Of South Carolina Loves and Misses you Aunt Jo. I will always remember family gatherings at Grandma and Grandpa O's, we had such fun growing up together with our cousins Jeff & Kyle. I couldn't wait to get out of school on holidays knowing soon we would all be together and celebrating together the many holidays of our young lives it all seems like yesterday to me. Uncle Clyde our thoughts and prayers are with you and our whole family during this time so Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need us for anything, we love you and are praying for the whole family God Bless you all. Clyde and family, I was saddened to read of Joan's passing. She had a warm compassionate nature which she showered on all of her friends and patients over the years.
I worked with Joan at Rockford Clinic in the Oncology unit and I was both a witness of as well as a recipient of that warmth and compassion. When I was trying to make the decision of starting college at the age of 30 and pursuing a degree in Pharmacy she gave me the needed advice and encouragement and then the final kick in the pants to get me going.
She loved her family and was so very proud of her boys. Jeff and Kyle , I am the lady that had the old rusted out yellow Datsun with a short in the wiring that you used for a school project. The day you boys brought it to show me how well it looked and ran after finishing that project your Mom was grinning from ear to ear.
I will always remember your Mom and what an inspiration she was to me.
