John August Rosander 1926—2016
John August Rosander, 90, passed away September 2, 2016. Born July 3, 1926, in Rockford, Illinois to August and Eva (Freed) Rosander. He grew up in Rockford and was a graduate of East High School, class of 1944. He received his Bachelors Degree from Northeastern Illinois University and attended the University of Michigan's Executive Development Program. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy. He served aboard the destroyer James C. Owens DD776, Pacific Theatre during WWII from 1944-1946. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Doris (Keller) and she was at his side for the past 45 years. In 1946, he joined Illinois Bell Telephone Company working in several capacities. In 1982, he retired from Illinois Bell as the Labor Relations Executive. Following his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife, golf and volunteering at Swedish American Hospital. He is predeceased in death by his parents, August and Eva Rosander; sisters, Phyllis Spalo and Ione Rosander; and daughter, Dawn Garner. He is survived by his wife, Doris; son, John (Shelley) Rosander; son-in-law, Tom Garner; grandchildren, Justin (Carol) Garner, Matt (Wendy) Garner, Travis (Brigid) Garner, Colin Rosander, Conner Rosander and Cole Rosander; and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Grace, Caden, Chase, Kayla, Kaycie, Kody, Kynzie, and Brianna.
A memorial service was held Thursday, September 8th, at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, submit memorials to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014 or Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 920 3rd Avenue, Rockford, IL 61104.
