Kathryn Mattison Obituary

Kathryn R. Mattison 1926—2016
Kathryn R. Mattison, 90, passed away peacefully in her home Sunday, July 17, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was born January 10, 1926, to Esther (Noling) and Fred Rundquist. Kathryn was a lifelong resident of Rockford. She was very proud of her family and Swedish heritage. She graduated from East High School, attended Colorado Women's College, University of Arizona and graduated from Beloit College with a degree in Political Science in 1946. Kathryn met Arthur M. Mattison in 1947, and they were married on November 20, 1948, in Rockford. They had three children, Chris (Mary), and their family, Brian (fiancée, Valerie Oliver), Denver, CO, Andrew (Lindsay), Durango, CO, and Brendan, Denver, CO; Sandy (John) Miller, Winnetka, IL and their family, Jason (fiancée, Robin Glancey), Tommy, and Alex, Chicago, IL; Katrina (Peter) Olson, Rockford, IL and their family, Rob (fiancée, Michelle Abbott) of Denver, CO, Amy (Jason) Muller of Grand Rapids, MI, Karen (Todd) Peirce and their children, Hayden and Carson, and Chris (Michelle) Olson, Denver, CO; many nieces and nephews; as well as her special friend and caregiver, Toney. Kathryn was a devoted and loving wife and mother; she had many friends and was a very active member of the community. She was a member of Second Congregational UCC/First Presbyterian Church; along with being very active in Junior League of Rockford (past president), Rockford Pro-Am, Rockford Garden Club, Rockford Children's Home and Aid, Antique Club, Investment Club, Choir Guild, and Delta Gamma. She was also a member of Rockford Country Club and the University Club. She was an avid golfer (including a Hole-in-One), swimmer, tennis player and skier. Kathryn and Arthur loved traveling the world together, especially with family to Aspen, Colorado. They also enjoyed the symphony, bird watching and the theatre. Kathryn's artistic flair was exhibited through her love of flowers and gardening. Predeceased by her husband Arthur in 2005; son, Chris in 2014; and her three brothers, Fredrick, Jack and Richard. Her family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers from Peak, and the tremendous care from Heartland Hospice.
Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Second Congregational UCC/First Presbyterian Church, 318 N. Church Street, Rockford, with Rev. Rebecca Newgren officiating. Private family burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, July 30, prior to the service in the church. Memorials may be made (in memory of Kathryn R. Mattison) to The Rockford Park District Foundation, 401 S. Main Street, Rockford, IL 61101, Attn.
