Larry C. Spaulding 1943—2017
Larry C. Spaulding, 74, of Byron passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. He was born in Belvidere, IL on July 29, 1943, the son of Ronald and Thelma (Yerke) Spaulding. After graduating from Marengo High School; Larry continued his education by getting his Bachelor's degree from ISU. He then went on to earn his Master's from NIU. Larry worked as a teacher in the Byron School District for many years. His love for the Byron Tigers never faded even after retiring. He continued to serve as a coach, groundskeeper, and mentor to many young baseball players and kids. When he wasn't cheering on the Tigers he was cheering on his beloved Chicago Cubs and enjoyed going shooting on the farm with his son. Above all, Larry was a devoted grandfather who always put his grandchildren first. He would make every event of theirs that he could and loved them unconditionally. Larry is survived by his sons, Reed (Karen) Spaulding of Byron, Randall (Kima) Spaulding of Villa Park, and Curtis (Andrea) Spaulding of Rockford; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Brandon) Truckenmiller, Hunter Lemke, Quintin Spaulding, Brenna Lemke, Ryder Spaulding, Bryson Spaulding, Faith Spaulding, Noah Spaulding, Roman Spaulding, Zackery Rouse, Ashlynne Spaulding, and Gabriella Spaulding; and great-grandson, Zane. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Lynn.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St., Byron. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are established in his name. www.farrellhollandgale.com

Many great memories of Mr. Spaulding. He truly was a mentor to all those he coached and taught, A kind and friendly person who was always positive. So sorry to hear of his passing.

My sincere condolences to Coach's Family. I came to Byron in 1990 and seemed as though Larry was always present at Byron events. I got to know him through the Byron Park District, Softball and Byron High School Baseball where his positive influence on young athletes will be his legacy. Those who knew Coach are blessed.

Still stunned about this. This guys is hard to talk about right now cause I could talk for days. Hes was a wonderful friend, teacher,great basketball and baseball coach through all my years growing up. What hurts the most is 40 yrs after me he is still the most kindest, caring person, coach and mentor to kids of mine. He will always be remembered in this town as THE GREATEST COACH of Byron.. RIP COACH u will be try missed everyday.. Prayers to the family.

I am deeply sadden to hear of Larry's passing.
I lived very close to where Larry lived as a child. Went to grade school & high school with him. I always enjoyed being friends with Larry. I seen him a few times in Byron and basket ball games.

To the Spaulding Family

Larry was a great friend and mentor to our sons. He was always available to help them with baseball. You could really tell he loved the game, it was in his heart. This is one guy we are going to miss around town and in the Byron School District. Take the loss of your Dad one day at a time and remember you have friends here whenever you need them.

To Mr. Spaulding's Family,

I was so sorry to hear of Mr. Spaulding's passing. He was a devoted teacher, coach and role model for countless kids in Byron. I have many fond memories of him from the classroom, playing field and the community. I knew him from the time he first came to Byron in the mid-60s when I was 5 or 6 years old. His loss is mourned by many, but you can take solace that he influenced everyone he came into contact with.
