Leslie Johnson Obituary

LESLIE C. JOHNSON, 87 ROCKFORD - Leslie Charles Johnson, 87, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Rockford. Leslie was a graduate of East High School, class of 1942. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corp. On July 11, 1953, he was joined in marriage to the former Joan Louise Howe of Mystic, Iowa. He worked for many years as a comptroller for Eclipse Inc. A communicant of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Leslie was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing and reading, especially military history. He will be fondly remembered by his children for the wonderful cross country adventures the family experienced including trips to Yellowstone Park, World Expo 1967 and Disneyland. Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan; daughter and son- in-law, Jackie and William Hatfield of Rockford; son and daughter-in-law, James and Marianna Johnson of Delaware; his cherished grandchildren Jonathan and Kyle Martin, and Paige Johnson. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at Sundberg Funeral Home Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. to time of service; Pastor Gary Kniseley will officiate.
