Hello, YOUNG family. It's Friday night, about 11 o'clock, and I just opened an email from Mike Cloyd that he sent around 9:15 this evening.
I give my condolences with an aching heart to all of you in your loss of such a good man. All of us in the WHITE household liked Mr. Young. We knew him to be a quiet man who always seemed to have a smile for all us neighborhood kids.
Our family moved to Collins Street in July '62. I was 6 1/2, and would be starting 2nd Grade in two months. Pat was just a bit older than me and Billy was just a bit younger.
It didn't take us 6 kids in our family to find other kids in the neighborhood, and the YOUNGs were right around the corner. I guess the main activities we boys shared were football behind the two houses across the street, softball at Riverdahl, and bicycle jumps in the alley.
I moved away from Rockford in May '79. I would get back to town regularly in the '80s and early '90s until my mom moved from Collins Street. During my visits back to Rockford, there were many times I would be able to visit with Mr. Young for a short time.
I knew Mr. Young to love his family and love the Lord, and cared about his neighbors. I'm not sure if you can ask anything better from a man.
Three of my last five trips to Rockford were for funerals. The common thread with Mr. Young, along with my mom, Dorothy Kahle, and Frances Ratze (Dorothy's sister), is this: they all loved the Lord and are counted as one of His Own; yes, we are all saddened and are grieved by their passing; but God's word says in Psalm 116:15, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Amen, and Hallelujah.
There is a song we sang at church many years ago called GOD'S FAMILY. I may not remember all the words, but it goes something like this:
And sometimes we laugh together, sometimes we cry. Sometimes we share together heartaches and sighs. Sometimes we dream together of how it will be when we all get together -- God's Family!
I do hope to see some of you the next time I get to Rockford.
Love and prayers to all,
Brendan White
