LEWIS CULVER SMITH JR., 86 ROCKFORD - Lewis Culver Smith Jr., 86, of Rockford, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2013, in Rockford. Born September 22, 1926, in Rockford, Illinois. He attended Highland elementary school, Lincoln Junior High School, and East High School. Lewis served in the Navy Air Corp from 1944-1946 as a Naval Bombardier in the Atlantic and Caribbean. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1950. Lewis married Margareta Dagmar Sjostrand; she predeceased him in 1966. He was Chief Executive Officer of Modern Metal Products in Loves Park Illinois for 43 years. He was a former member of Forest Hills Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf. Lewis was a member of Tebala Shriner's, Masons, Blackhawk Athletic, Svithiod, Lyan Singing Society, Navy, Lombardi and University Clubs. Lewis enjoyed spending summers at Sand Lake in Northern Wisconsin. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing in South Florida and Canada. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Smith; daughter-in-law, Cean Smith; grandchildren, Cierra and Blake Smith; nieces, Susan Lewis and Jennifer Bonnike, and special friend, Lilian Woehler.
