MARCIA M . (MOTT) SPRAGUE, 86 SCITUATE, Mass. - Marcia M. (Mott) Sprague, age 86, of Scituate, passed away peacefully with family by her side on June 14, 2013. Beloved wife of Martin Gantshar and the late James C. Sprague. Devoted mother of Elizabeth Spradlin and her husband, Donald of Scituate, Margaret Scanlon of Marshfield, Mary Sprague and her late husband Paul Gunn of Scituate, Jenny Sprague of Attleboro and her fiancé Claus Croatto. Beloved daughter of the late J. Harcourt and Eva Mott. Sister of David Mott, Hayward, Wisconsin. Loving grandmother of Alicia (Spradlin) Herlihy, Grant Spradlin, James Marshall, John Marshall, Kelsey Scanlon, Alexander Gunn, Paul (Graeme) Gunn and two great-grandchildren. Marcia grew up in Rockford, Illinois and graduated from Beloit College with a Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts where she was a sister of the Delta Gamma Fraternity. She loved the town of Scituate and was very involved in the community. Marcia and her husband Jim belonged to both the Scituate Yacht Club and Satuit Boat Club and loved sailing on their boat the Counterpoint, including many trips to Maine with the Blue Water Sailing Club. Marcia was a long time member of the Scituate Garden Club where she enjoyed participating in floral design classes and was selected to exhibit at the annual Art in Bloom at the MFA in Boston. As a member of the First Trinitarian Congregational Church she served on many committees, participated in fundraisers and sang in the choir for over 30 years. Marcia was a passionate volunteer and served as director of the Scituate Chapter of the American Red Cross and co-chaired the disaster relief efforts during the Blizzard of '78 including the management of the High School shelter which housed over 600 families. She served as Aid to Military Families during the Vietnam War. Marcia was on the Board of Directors of Norwell VNA & Hospice for many years. She was instrumental in the design and organization of Trinity Cemetery where she served on the Board of Directors. Marcia and her husband Martin enjoyed many musical and cultural events in the Boston area and traveled extensively together. She enjoyed many wonderful years at her retreat on Thompson Lake in Oxford, Maine. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, at the First Trinitarian Congregational Church, 381 Country Way, Scituate, and will be followed by a service at 4 p.m. Burial will be private. Memorial donations in Marcia's name may be made to Trinity Cemetery c/o First Trinitarian Congregational Church, 381 Country Way, Scituate or NVNA & Hospice Campus of Caring Residence, 120 Longwater Drive, Suite 200, Norwell. Dear Martin, Beth & Don, Margret, Mary & Jenny-
I'm so sorry to have heard of Marcia's passing. Although I had not seen her for a while, I always inquired to see how she was doing. She was a great mother and grandmother. I shall miss her as I'm sure you all will. May she rest in peace.
