Marjorie Broquist Obituary

Marjorie A. Broquist 1929—2018
Marjorie A. Broquist went home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, while holding the hands of her daughters. She has been surrounded with love and devotion in her final months, a testament to the compassion she showed others throughout her life. Marge was born April 6, 1929, to Carl and Dorothy (Prince) Theden. She grew up in Rockford and graduated from East High School in 1947. She married Roger A. Broquist on May 1, 1953. They loved camping with friends, hosting costume parties, playing cards and going out for Swedish pancakes. She dutifully served as an Election Judge for many years. She was a devoted mom to her daughters, Susan and Nancy, who she taught to always be curious about the world and the people around them. She loved to read and could be found reading through the night to finish a new book. She was an active member of Alpine Lutheran Church and served on committees as well as the Volunteer Coordinator for many years. She reliably baked Westhaven cakes for funeral luncheons and treated her friends to her famous diamond cookies on their birthdays. Marge was a talented writer - documenting her life and the ways she saw God working. She turned this talent into her personal card ministry. There is not a person who knows Marge who didn't receive a handwritten note from her, whether it was a birthday card, thank you note, holiday greeting or encouraging letter. She cultivated a love of writing in her granddaughter, Sarah, and enjoyed watching her grow (into a writer). She was a silly Great Gram to Henry, Clark and Lucy and even let them litter her family room with toys. Her fridge is covered with crayon artwork and super hero coloring pages. She will be greatly missed by her family, including daughters, Susan (Dr. Charles) Rice of Manhattan, KS, and Nancy (Russ) Hornbeck of Rockford; granddaughter, Sarah (Shea) McGinnity of Overland Park, KS; three great- grandchildren; brother-in-law, David Jockisch; niece, Debra Jockisch; nephew, Dale Hathaway, all of California; special cousins, Audrey and Bob Johnson; and many dear friends. She is predeceased by her parents, husband and sister, Carolyn Jockisch.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Alpine Lutheran Church, 5001 Forest View, Rockford, IL, with Rev. Dan Wynard and Rev. Rick Meier officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Family prefers memorials to Alpine Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice in Rockford. Marge will always and forever be in our hearts. She made each person in our family feel like we were special to her. Her kindness and love radiated from her beautiful smile. May we all strive to be just a little kinder, caring and more loving as a tribute to this very dear lady. Richard and Connie Dowling and family✝
