MARY ELIZABETH FINCKE, 90 BELVIDERE - Mary Elizabeth Fincke, 90, of Belvidere, IL passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at home and in peace surrounded by her family, after a brief illness. She was born June 24, 1924, in Belvidere, IL; the daughter of the late Warren B. and Nettie (Casey) Kahler. She married Arthur Raymond Fincke September 1, 1948. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Bel-Mar Country Club. She loved bowling, gardening and was a huge fan of her beloved Bucs, Cubs, Bears and most recently the Blackhawks. She embraced and loved her role as matriarch of the family. Mary took great pride in celebrating the accomplishments of family, extended family and special friends. A friend to so many in the Belvidere community, her kitchen table was a special place for many to gather and share stories; to debate, laugh, cry and celebrate life. Her famous handmade raspberry pies and Christmas caramels were a favorite of family and friends alike. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Ann Fincke (Bill Weiner) of Chatsworth, CA; sons, John Fincke (Sally Pavlak) of Belvidere, IL, Gary Fincke of Mammoth Lakes, CA; grandchildren, Katherine Casey Duggan (Thaddeus Chapman) of Santa Margarita, CA, Meagan (Josh) Hove of Belvidere, IL, Leslie (James) Williams of Belvidere, IL; great-grandchildren, Maddie and Sophie Hove of Belvidere, IL; sister, Nancy Zimmerman of Elgin, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Richard Kahler; and daughter-in-law, Barb Fincke. There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Belvidere Funeral Home Inc. in Belvidere, IL. The funeral service will start at noon Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment in Highland Garden of Memories in Belvidere, IL. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Northern Illinois Hospice.
