As one of Mary Alice's Alpha Phi roommates at Illinois, long distance news of her sudden, unexpected death deeply saddens me. Michael and Lauren will be in my thoughts now that life's impermanence has injected itself and ended a cherished, meaningful connection.

Mary Alice,
I am shocked with you passing on. You were a good attorney we shared alot of ups and downs. You talked so much about your children as well as your grandchildren. Every time I came into your office you had another picture to show me of the grandchildren. Now you are in a peaceful place. God Bless you and your family.

I’ve known Mary Alice since May of 2004 when I began working for her as her secretary. Mary Alice was a wonderful, beautiful, kind and extremely intelligent person. Mary Alice supported me through my difficult high risk pregnancy and shared my joy when my sons were born healthy. Working for her was my first experience working in the legal field and I couldn’t have had a better teacher. She never got mad or frustrated with me when I made mistakes but instead laughed at them. She was always so laid back and I felt comfortable coming to her with any problem. I’ve always considered Mary Alice a dear friend and I am truly saddened by this loss. I have always believed that people come into your life for a reason and I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to know and befriend such an awesome woman. My condolences to her friends and family. You are all in my prayers.

Mike and Lauren --
I am a fraternity brother of your father and knew both your Mom and Dad in college and after. I have very fond memories of your Mom and the friendship she gave me in college and me and my wife after college. The Odling festivities were always fun whether they were at the house on New Years Eve or summertime at Lauderdale Lakes as your folks were always gracious and giving hosts. Our sincerest condolences to you and your family.

Mary Alice was one of my best friends. I can hardly believe that I won't hear that cute giggle of hers again when we would talk forever and laugh about something silly, or the way she would always come up with the right answer whenever I called with a quick legal research question. She was a brilliant woman--from teaching English at Harlem Middle School to the legal profession. I first met her when I substitute taught for her when she left to have her baby, Lauren. I knew how special she was to her students; they loved her and seriously missed her while she was gone. I could tell what a great teacher she was by her detailed and thought-provoking lesson plans. I have so many wonderful memories over all the years--the Law Follies, my son lovingly calling her "Miracle Whip" because her initials MAO sounded like mayo, her artistic hand-writing, her impeccably decorated Christmas trees, the train rides into Chicago for the ISBA family law seminars, the time she spent hours and hours by my side without a complaint helping me write the second of two appellate briefs due within days of each other, and how she loved her children and those beautiful grand babies--showing their pictures to everyone. God must have decided that her work on earth was done because He has taken her from us to be with Him. God Bless her, Love always, Allyson
