MICHAEL STEPHEN MAAS, 42 CHANA - Michael Stephen Maas, 42, devoted son, brother, and uncle, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at his home, after a sudden illness. Born Dec. 21, 1969, in Rockford, the son of Robert P. and Janice M. (Remmers) Maas. Mike was raised in Stillman Valley and graduated from Stillman Valley High School in 1988. He also attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He was known to most as "Maas", and was the "go to guy" at Moore's Hardware in Rochelle for the past 20 years. He was always willing to listen and ready to help. When he wasn't at Moore's Hardware he could be found playing with his niece and nephew, Ada Mae and Henry on the farm. Mike farmed with his father in the Stillman Valley area. He was an avid Cubs fan along side his Grandpa Paul. He will be greatly missed by his parents, Robert and Janice Maas of Chana; little sister, Deb Maas of Stillman Valley; niece and nephew, Ada Mae and buddy, Henry Maas; paternal grandfather, Paul W. Maas of Chana; step maternal grandmother, Betty Remmers; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Predeceased by paternal grandmother Hazel Maas; maternal grandfather, Louis Remmers; and maternal grandmother, Dagmar Remmers. Service at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at Elim Reformed Church, rural Kings, with the Rev. Gerald Dykstra, pastor, officiating. Burial in White Rock Cemetery. Visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt Road, Stillman Valley.
