Nancy "Nan" L. Carter, 86, of Rockford passed away Saturday December 17, 2016. She was born January 20, 1930 in Rockford to V.D. "Dewey" and Edna Osborn. She graduated from East High School in 1947 and attended Hamilton School of Business in Rockford. She married Howard Carter on October 15, 1948 in Rockford. He predeceased her on June 11, 2000. Nan held administrative roles in Rockford at Hudson Sprayer and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She also helped out at Alpha Floral during the various holiday seasons. Nan had a life-long love of butterflies and enjoyed golf, gardening, playing cards, entertaining and going out with the Thursday night "Bunch" both in Rockford and at her second home in Deltona, FL. Nan enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends up at the family vacation home on Plum Lake in Sayner, WI. She was a tall, stylish lady with a quick wit. She also had many friends, including her life-long friend Jeanine Wilmer, who had been together since grade school days in Rockford and still got together regularly for lunch and conversation. Survivors include children Steve (Lisa) Carter and Beth Hart; grandchildren Wes Hart, Brad (Becky) Carter and Bryn Carter; great-grandchild Leah Carter; brother Don (Lois) Osborn and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by infant son Bradley, parents and in-laws, Arthur and Sarah Carter, husband Howard, and special friend William Carter.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday December 22, 2016 at St. Mark Lutheran Church 670 N. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL with the visitation held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Reverend Dr. Mark Hagen officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
