Nancy Weingartner Obituary

NANCY JEAN WEINGARTNER, 87 CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - Nancy Jean (Myer) Weingartner, 87, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, in Chesterfield. She was born Jan. 29, 1924, in Sterling, Ill., to John K. and Harriet (Barto) Myer. She moved to Chicago in 1929. Nancy graduated from Senn High School and attended De Pauw University in Greencastle, Ind., where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. After graduating from DePauw in 1945, Nancy worked for the telephone company in Chicago and also in Rockford after she married John Philip Weingartner in 1948. A devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and beloved aunt, Nancy also was a Girl Scout leader and school volunteer. For more than 60 years, she was a member of Second Congregational Church, where she was in the Leona B. Gordon circle, served on various committees and volunteered in the tutoring program. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge with friends, bowling, and playing Scrabble and other games with her grandchildren. Predeceased by parents; husband; and sister, Patricia Myer Moberg. Survived by her three children, Tom (Jill) Weingartner of Rockford, Polly (George) Taylor of Chesterfield and Linda (Bryan) Brown of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Nathan (Trista) Weingartner of Rockford, Andrew Downs and Matthew (Ruth) Downs of St. Louis and Elaine (Gregg) Bauer of River Forest, Ill. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at Anderson-Long-Klontz Funeral Home, 6825 Weaver Road, Rockford, with visitation from 9 a.m. to service time. Rev. Michael Simmons, pastor of Springcreek United Church of Christ officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Second Congregational Church of Rockford (secondcon.com), the American Cancer Society (cancer.org), the Weingartner Student Loan Fund % Second Congregational Church or the charity of your choice.
