Neil Johnson Obituary

NEIL B. JOHNSON, 71 MORRISON - Neil B. Johnson, 71, of Morrison died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, Iowa. Born July 7, 1941, in Starbuck, Minn., son of Maurice and Verna (Thompson) Johnson. Neil was educated in the Rockford (Ill.) grade schools and attended Rockford East High School. Married Barbara J. Johnson; later married Dorothy VanderVinne-Vanderlaan on Dec. 31, 1997, in Mount Carroll. Johnson was employed in the construction trades. Most recently, he was employed as a park ranger at White Pines State Park in Oregon, Ill., and later for Rockwood State Park. Member of Ducks Unlimited. Neil was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include wife, Dorothy; daughter, Audra Johnson of Madison, Wis.; son, Wade (Cindy) Johnson of Rockford; stepdaughter, Dawn (Scott) Meurs of Morrison; stepsons, Dale (Michelle) Vanderlaan of Oak Park, Doug (Renee) Vanderlaan and Darwin (Lisa) Vanderlaan, all of Morrison; grandchildren, Taylor Johnson, Stacy and Cassie Meurs, Grant and Beau Vanderlaan, Hanah and Ben Vanderlaan, and Samantha and Cody Vanderlaan; sisters, Connie (Dale) Gustafson of Belvidere and Carol Swenson, Sheila (Gary) Kordash and Sonia (John) Pofelski, all of Rockford; brothers, Keith (Darlene) Johnson of Afton, Tenn., and Marty Johnson of Warren. Predeceased by granddaughter, Amanda Conerly; and brother-in-law, Reg Swenson. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Morrison Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald H. Norman, pastor of Ebenezer Reformed Church, officiating; visitation will be from 2 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. Additionally, a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural St., Rockford, with a luncheon gathering after the service and visitation from 1 p.m. to service time at the church.
