OLENE C. WILSON GANOE, 77 ROCKFORD - Olene C. Wilson Ganoe, 77, of Rockford, went to be with the Lord at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born on March 6, 1932, in Strawberry, Ark., to Ferd and Ida (Turley) Whitmire. Olene moved to Rockford in 1952 and worked for many years at National Lock. In 1972, she married her best friend, Bob Ganoe, and the two of them shared a wonderful life together until Bob's death in 1996. They loved to travel and share their experiences with their children through movies and pictures. Olene was also an excellent seamstress, and her passion was quilting. Her quilts were beautiful and are considered family heirlooms that will be passed on through many generations. They don't make them like that anymore. She is survived by her sons, Carl (Debbie Couch) Wilson, Robert Wilson Sr., Gary (Mabel) Wilson and Nicky (Debbie) Wilson; daughters, Cathy (Steve) Porter and Donna (Ed) Brudnowski; brother, Ted (Pam) Whitmire; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; special friends, Richard and Ginny and, of course, "Little Mary." Also predeceased by her parents and grandchildren, Gary Wilson Jr. and Robert Wilson Jr. Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, in Advantage Funeral Home, 7000 W. State St. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, in the funeral home. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family. Olene will be missed very much, just as we have missed Bob so much since his passing. We always enjoyed being with them over the years. We had some fun trips together. I'm sure we will meet again, in a better place, and take up where we left off.
