Peter Bartkus Obituary
Peter P. Bartkus Jr., 94, passed away in Presence St. Anne Center on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. He was born March 27, 1923, in Rockford, the son of Peter Sr. and Mary E. (Karsok) Bartkus. Peter attended Rockford Central High School and was a member of the first class to graduate from East High School. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater and occupied Japan. He married the former Norma Jean Nelson and she predeceased him July 20, 2016. Peter was formerly employed by Greenlee Bros., Mechanics, and Gates Rubber Co. He and Norma owned and operated Tru Tone Music for many years. Peter was an accomplished musician and was a member of accordion clubs in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Peoria. He is survived by his son, Bradley D. Bartkus of Rockford; sisters-in-law, Vera Avery and Marian Johnson; nephews, Craig Johnson and Michael Avery; and niece, Lisa Avery.
Visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2017, with service beginning at 2 p.m. in Sundberg Funeral Home, Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford, with Rev. Jaci McNeil officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Rockford Rescue Mission, 715 W. State St., Rockford, IL 61102. Online condolences may be left at sundbergfh.com.

My condolences for the passing of both of your parents. Although it has been several years and I am not sure if you remember me, but you are in my prayers. Have always wondered if you kept up with your music. (Playing the sax, and blizzard of 79 in Madison WI???)

Great memories of 2 young, budding guitarists often riding bikes from Loves Park to Charles street to visit True Tone Music for picks and strings and anything we needed. Peter was always very helpful and informative. Great to see he lived a long life. Rest in peace! Prayers for the family

Hi Brad. I wanted to call you but found no number. Sorry to hear about my old buddy. We go back to the 1st. grade at Turner school. We were the best of friends growing up and played a lot of baseball and football. We never had a fight. I am in fla. and will not make it to the funeral. I will never forget him.

Hi BRAD I wanted to call you but couldnt find a number. Iam in fla. so cannot make the funeral. Pete and I go back to the 1st. grade. we grew up as best buddies and never had a fight. We played a lot of baseball and football as kids at an empty lot on 18th. av. and 10th st. Am sorry to hear about my oldest and best friend.
