Richard Burgert Obituary

RICHARD 'DICK' C. BURGERT, 85 LOVES PARK - Richard "Dick" C. Burgert, 85, of Loves Park died Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Dick was born July 12, 1927, in Rockford, son of Charles and Ethel (Bergman) Burgert. Graduated from East High School in 1945. Veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy. Married his sweetheart, Peggy Johnson at St. Peter's Church on Feb. 23, 1952, in Rockford. Employed by UPS for 26 years, retiring in 1996. Member of American Legion. Avid racing fan. Enjoyed hunting, fishing, the theatre and travel. He and Peggy enjoyed several cruises and their 4th of July excursions. Dick also enjoyed driving and showing his antique Cadillac. Dick was a proud father, grandfather and the best husband a wife could have. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Peggy; sons, Chuck (Joan) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and James (Elizabeth) Burgert of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Charlie, Zach and Grace; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Mary Griffin of Springfield; sister-cousin, Kitty Malmquist of Rockford; and cousin, Donald Bergman. Predeceased by parents and son, Steven. Service at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., 401 River Lane, with visitation from 11 a.m. to service time. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. For more information, visit delehantyfh.com.
