ROBERT E. ATEN, 91 ROCKFORD - Robert E. Aten, 91, Rockford died at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015, at Presence Cor Mariae nursing center. Born January 6, 1924, in Rockford, the son of Walter E. and Daisy Snyder Aten. Married to Dorothy Ruth Bergfalk in Chicago on June 28, 1947; she died October 25, 2001. Bob was an auto mechanic who formerly worked at Don Quinn Shell and then owned his own station at Summitt and State Mobil for many years, where he was the on-call person to start employees of SwedishAmerican Hospital cars in the winter. He was an aircraft mechanic in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, serving in Europe during 1942-1945. He was a regular for breakfast with his friends at the Stockholm Inn. A member of Centennial United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Tebala Shrine Temple. Survivors include his daughters, Carol Risenhoover and Deborah Kobischka of Rockford; grandchildren, Robert Risenhoover, Jennifer Berry and Andrew Kobischka; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Benjamin Berry and Brandon Kobischka. Also predeceased by his daughter, Susan Elaine Aten and his sister, Shirley Whitmore. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home, with visitation from 1:30 p.m. until service time. Rev. Fabiola Grandon-Mayer will officiate. Burial at Arlington Cemetery in Rockford. Memorials may be given in care of the family for benefit of Centennial United Methodist Church or The Shriners Hospital for Children.
