Ronald Grenberg Obituary

RONALD V. GRENBERG, 86 IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Ronald V. Grenberg, 86, of Sunset Road, Ironwood Township, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at home, following a lengthy illness. He was born Nov. 13, 1928, in Rockford, Ill., son of the late Herman and Katherine (Meyers) Grenberg, and graduated from East High School in Rockford in 1946. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 15, 1950, serving overseas in Korea, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant on Dec. 9, 1952. Following his discharge, Ron returned to Rockford and attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill., receiving a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1956. He then was employed with Borg-Warner Corp. in Rockford for 30 years, retiring as administrative manager in 1987. Moving to Ironwood in July 1991, he sold real estate for Silver Properties in his retirement. Ron was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood and was a past member of the church council. He enjoyed playing golf in his younger years and was an avid downhill skier his entire life. On Aug. 20, 1988, he married the former Barbara Ann Johnson in Lake Tahoe, Nev. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, Ryan Grenberg (Sarah Allen), Duluth, Minn., Daniel Mulcahey, Ironwood, Stephen (Jaclyn) Mulcahey, Culver City, Calif., and Joseph Mulcahey, Rockford; a daughter, Kathleen (Nick) Memcaj, Waterford, Mich.; six grandchildren, Brittany, Joseph and Tyler Bonanno, and Eli, Mari Anna and Jack George Mulcahey; a brother, Ted (Audrey), Belvedere, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and first wife, Marlene, who died in 1985, Ron was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Nelson. Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 100 W. Midland Ave., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Kurt Kovanen, pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church or Northland Chapter 66, Disabled American Veterans. Arrangements have been entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood. Condolences may be expressed online at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.
