Roy Johnson Obituary

ROY GORDON 'GORDY' JOHNSON, 84 ROCKFORD - Roy Gordon "Gordy" Johnson, 84, of Rockford died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, in his residence. Born April 16, 1928, in Rockford, the son of Roy W. and Mary (Ellis) Johnson. He married Marian Eade on Sept. 13, 1949, at The Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa; she died Jan. 13, 1985. Roy attended Rockford schools. He was a "class A" tool & die maker at National Lock, retiring in 1983 after 33 years. Gordy enjoyed the outdoors while fishing, camping, and hunting. He considered the home he built "a piece of heaven" for 47 years; especially looking out the windows, watching all the "critters" (birds, squirrels, ducks, geese, wild turkeys and so many more). They would always bring a smile to his face. How comical God's creatures can be, particularly the babies! Survived by nephew, Roy (Barbara) Larson of Cherry Valley; niece, Susan (David) Hoffman of Rockford; a grandniece, great-grandniece and great-grandnephew. Gordy knew how blessed he was to have such fantastic neighbors, Bill (Rosie) Born, Chuck (Margaret) Moore, Phil (Dee Dee) Cancelose; and great friends with the Dorothy Brown family. Predeceased also by parents and sister, Dorothy M. Larson. Special thanks to Dr. Atef Tawfik; his nurse, Barbara; heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional nurses from OSF Hospice, Lori, Julie, Sue and Michelle; and Karen and Ed from Social Services. Gordy especially valued the care given to him by Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (L.S.S.I.), and Intouch Home Care workers, Kayla and Theresa. May God bless all of you for your loving care, service, and friendship to Gordy! He knew he was "a lucky guy" because of YOU! Because his wife, Marian, was truly the "love of his life," Gordy constantly looked forward to being re-united with her. And now they are together...forever. Blissfully happy...once again! Service at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave, with visitation from 9 a.m. to time of service; the Rev. Jay Quinn of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Private family burial in Oak Knoll Memorial Park Cemetery, Sterling. Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice, 9951 Rock Cut Crossing, Loves Park, IL 61111; and L.S.S.I., c/o Wendy Adams, 6401 Newburg Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. "Gordy" was one of my favorite people! HE always had a smile & hug for me when he came to my place of employment! He always told me how much he loved his beloved wife & missed her so much. In my heart I know they walk again hand in hand on gods holy shores! Rest with your beloved Gordy knowing you will live forever in the memories of all you blessed with your smile! From my heart to all of the family "God blessed you with a wonderful person" now know during your time of sorrow he is safely home!

You were one of "us". It was always fun catching up on fishing and hearing about the old days on the river. RIP my friend, cast a line and have a beer with Grandpa for me.
