Sandra Lucas Obituary
Sandra Barrett Lucas, 88, was born on June 17, 1929, in Rockford to Paul and Elsa Lindholm Barrett and peacefully passed into eternal life on July 12, 2017. She was a lifelong resident of Rockford and a graduate of East High School. She was the proud mother of and is survived by her five children who all visited her the week before she passed: Kristie Worley, San Diego, California; Greg Lucas (Julie), Gary Lucas (Cindy) and Holly Kylberg, Denver, Colorado; Steve Lucas, Loves Park; four grandchildren: Amey Worley Hoey, San Diego; Brian Lucas, San Francisco; Barrett and Corbin Lucas, Denver; five great grandchildren: Hunter, Hayden and Hailey Hoey, San Diego; Sophia Lucas, Denver; and Adrianna Lucas, San Francisco. Living in the house on Pinecrest Road in Rockford for over 60 years she built with her husband, Dave Lucas, she loved her neighborhood and friends. After her children grew up and left her house, she devoted her time to her beloved cats and dogs. She loved to travel by train to the great American West, including the Colorado mountains and the ancient ones at Mesa Verde, Las Vegas, San Diego, Reno, Lake Tahoe and New Mexico. She cherished her Swedish heritage and loved the Stockholm Inn's Swedish pancakes. Many of her friends may remember her from her many years of food demonstration in area grocery stores, where her personality sparkled. She loved boating on the Rock River with her son, Steve Lucas, and other family and friends. She adored sporty, fast cars with V-8 engines, camping out with her family and all water sports. She especially enjoyed watching the Ski Broncs performances on the Rock River, when her son Steve performed. Her family wishes to give special thanks to Sharon and Terry Meyers, who were her caregivers and friends for many years.
A celebration of Sandra's life will be held at a future date, and her family asks that friends sign the online Legacy registry at www.fitzgeraldfuneralhome.com so that her family can contact them with the details.

Sad to hear of a death of someone so special. We lived next-door to Sandra for three+ years on Pinecrest. She became a sort-of grandmother to us and our children, even helping us rescue an abandoned neighborhood cat that became a forever friend. We will always remember her fondly!

Sandra is a dear friend of our beloved mother Genevieve Sanford. They spent numerous holidays together reminiscing about their days growing up in Rockford. My family loved and cherished the good times and the laughter shared with Sandra. She is a delightful, fun-loving woman who will be missed by my entire family. We all look very forward to the day when we will be re-united forever in heaven! Love to the entire family especially our wonderful friend and her loving son ... Steve.

I graduated from East high with Sandra and we became neighbors on Pinecrest Road. We raised our children together and belonged to the same bridge club. She was a fun loving woman and I will really miss her.
