Scott Gredenius Obituary

Scott Anders Gredenius 1962—2021
Scott Anders Gredenius, 59, of Roscoe IL passed away on Friday July 2, 2021. He was born on May 25, 1962 in Rockford, the son of Anders and Arline (Saharek) Gredenius. He was a graduate of Rockford Guilford High School in 1981, attended Rock Valley College and graduated from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy at The College of DuPage in 2015. Scott spent much of his career working in law enforcement including service with the Roscoe Police Department, Harlem Roscoe Fire, Rockford Auxiliary Police, Kirkland Police, Rockford Park District Police, Winnebago County Sherriff Department and the Federal Protective Services where he provided protection services to Federal Judges and Military personal. Scott was a large fun-loving presence who could command a room, yet also get down to the level of a child to give them a stuffed animal and help comfort them in the unfamiliar setting of a courtroom.
While Scott enjoyed his career, his greatest joy came from spending time with his son Anders. Whether it was providing a fun safe house to Anders and his friends, coaching various football teams, cheering from the stands, spending a day teaching firearm safety and shooting techniques or just cruising the back roads with Anders and the Public Guardians LEMC Rock Solid Chapter motorcycle club, Scott loved his son and was so proud of him. Scott had a big heart and will be remembered as a man who loved public service and all those involved with it. He would regularly check up on his friends and was always willing to help others.
Scott is survived by his son Anders of Roscoe, parents Anders and Arline Gredenius of Rockford, sister Linda (Gary) Larson of Rockford, brother Chris (Sara) Gredenius of Arlington, MA numerous nieces and nephews and former spouse Nicole Gredenius of Rockton.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday July 13, 2021 at Broadway Covenant Church with a visitation at 1:00 and service at 2:00PM. There will be a reception immediately following. A private family service will be held at Scandinavian Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to The Greg Lindmark Foundation PO Box 91 Roscoe, IL 61073.

Often think about Scott and remember how we used to joke and laugh and how he worried about being a good dad to Anders.

One of the things I will miss Scott the most is whenever I have to be at an appointment at The S.S. Office at Steward Square he was always reminded me not to be late and be on time to the appointments. Scott was always a straight forward guy and very compassionate when he need it to be. I´m sorry that the last couple of years we had to keep our distance and not be able to talk as often as we wanted to. I will miss you my friend, you left too soon. This one will hurt for awhile.

So shocked and sorry to hear about Scott´s death. His obituary is probably the best one I have ever read. It is definitely Scott. One memory of Scott that I treasure is how much he loved his mom and dad. Scott´s dad was very sick some years back and Scott broke down and cried over how he didn´t want to lose his dad when we were alone at work. Thankfully God had different plans at that time. Rest In Peace Scott we will miss you.

My deepest sympathy to Scottie's family, especially Anders. Anders, your father was so very proud of you. He would frequently stop by our office when he was working down here in the basement of Stewart Square and he would talk about you. There was always a sparkle in his eyes while he was doing so. We could feel the depth of his love for you. May the Good Lord continue to comfort you and guide you in your father's stead. And may He hold Scottie in the palm of his hand.

I met Scott in my early teens. He was good friends with my brother Brian Bjork. He was like a brother to me. I remember him joining us on a family trip to Florida back in 1989. He was caring and funny. I was fortunate to reunite with him at Walmart 2 years ago. It was great seeing him. Rest In Peace. I love you like a brother.
