Wallace Salberg

WALLACE I. SALBERG, 84 ROCKFORD - Wallace I. Salberg, 84, lifelong resident of Rockford died Thursday, Nov. 22. One of "The Greatest Gener-ation," born June 1, 1923, to John and Walborg Salberg. He is a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, with family in Rockford, Oregon, California and Wyoming. From East High School class of 1941, he worked at National Lock and joined the U.S. Marines as soon as he turned 19. He served in the Pacific Islands with the Marine Bombing Squadron VMB 612. Wally joined his father and two brothers in Salberg and Sons Inc. cement and excavation contractors in Rockford for more than 30 years, and then Design Building Inc. He loved fishing most of all and was a highly skilled mechanic and electronic repairman. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ellida Lodge 25 and a 1946 charter member of Rockford's Marine Corps League. Wally is survived by wife, Carolyn; daughter, Jeanne Schlegel; son, Gary; as well as all their children, Shanlea, Linnea, Jonathan, Eric Jeffrey and Landon. Memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in Trinity Lutheran Church, with visitation at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may support the Marine Corps League of Rockford.
