Warren McGhee Obituary

Warren Geddes McGhee 1930—2018
Warren Geddes McGhee, age 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 23, 2018. He was born August 17, 1930 in Rockford, Il, the son of Wilford and Grace (Geddes) McGhee. He lived his entire life in the Stillman Valley area, having grown up on a farm which belonged to his grandfather and father. He graduated from Rockford East High School in 1948 and from Wheaton College in 1953. He married Connie Kathleen McBride on August 21, 1954 in Pleasant Hill, Ohio. He was employed by Sundstrand Corporation for 36 years, retiring in 1991. After retirement he enjoyed working part time at the Stillman Valley Bank. He was a lifetime member of the Kishwaukee Community Evangelical Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, Sunday School Teacher, and was the church organist for 64 years. He served as a Rockford Area Literacy Council volunteer tutor for several years and as a trustee of Kishwaukee Cemetery and Julia Hull District Library. He particularly enjoyed music of many kinds and traveling in Britain. He is survived by his wife Connie: son James W. (Karen) McGhee of Long Grove, IL; daughter Kathleen (Michael) Nelson of Elizabethtown, KY: eight grandchildren, James F. (Devan) McGhee of Florida, Emily (Eli) Grieff of Arizona, Grace and Liana McGhee of Illinois, Megan (Daniel) Holley of Germany, Ben (Shelby) Nelson of North Carolina, Matthew and Nathan Nelson of Kentucky, 5 Great grandchildren, also survived by Laurel Forsyth McGhee (mother of James E. and Emily), Sister Mabel Boyer and Sister-in-law Joanne McGhee. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Robert and John McGhee. Warren liked Bible verse Micah 6:8 - He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? Warren sought to live out this truth.
Private burial will be in the Kishwaukee Cemetery. A Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Kishwaukee Community Evangelical Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Eric Tonjes officiating. A time to share memories and visit with the family will precede the service from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Stillman Valley is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be given to Kishwaukee Community Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Pinecrest Community, or Kishwaukee Cemetery. Visit www.farrellhollangale.com to leave a condolence.

Could anyone laugh like Warren? Or hold firmer to what is good, true, and beautiful? He was a treasure. Warren was a gift beyond words to me and my family. I praise God for you.

Dear Connie & Warren's family...And of course to my sister-in-law Mabel on the loss of her last brother.

Please accept my sincere sympathy and condolences on the passing of Warren. In the years that I knew him, I found him to be a very kind and considerate man; just like all the McGhee family. May God bless you at this difficult time.
