William Sweeney Obituary
William "Bill" C. Sweeney, 66, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2021 in his home. Born October 19, 1954 in Rockford, the son of Charles and Delores (Nystrom) Burman. Bill married Nancy Oberts on November 9, 1974. He worked in IT at Sundstrand and retired after 39 years. Bill was a kind and gentle man with a wonderful smile. He loved his job volunteering at OSF. He and his son enjoyed bonding over golf and bowling. Survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Greg; siblings, Barb Oakley, David Cross, Kathy Sweeney, Darrell Sweeney, Carol Guthrie, and Penny Moody; brother-in-law, Gary (Kristin) Oberts of Tustin, CA; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Ed Sweeney and Pam Pruitt. Special thank you to Dr. Korkmaz, Dr. Ahmad and OSF Hospice for helping Bill through his cancer journey.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 2nd Ave. Rockford. The family asks that all guests wear masks to the visitation. To share a memory or condolence, visit olsonfh.com.
