Molly Mae Hardy
Molly Mae Hardy was a warm, gentle, and godly daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandma. She was born May 15, 1939, in Odell, Texas. She moved to Lea County in 1950, where she helped on her parents' farm and attended school in Lovington, New Mexico. She graduated from Lovington High School in 1957. She attended a year of secretarial school in Lubbock, Texas before meeting and marrying R.L. Hardy, Jr. on June 11, 1959. They lived in several places throughout their marriage, but settled in Capitan, NM in 1971. Molly continued to reside in Capitan for the next 48 years and was well known in the community. Many recall her walking to the store or anywhere in town at speeds few could match. She was also known for her generous spirit. She loved mowing and would mow anywhere she could in the summers. She believed it was something she could do to help her neighbors and the neighborhood. Many did not know who took care of it only that it was done. She also showed her love for people by caring for those who were unable to care for themselves. She traveled where she was needed to help family members and friends. She sat with loved ones at the hospital and gave others time to take care of basic needs, run errands, or take a much-needed break by helping care for their loved ones. She loved children, spending time playing with them and teaching them games from her childhood. She was hardworking and loving, and she kept these qualities until the end.
Molly passed away on November 1, 2020, at the home of a family member surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by both parents, Lee and Dollie Mitchell, her husband of 28 years, Rufus Lanier "R.L."
