Don was a warm and steady presence with an always full reservoir of of kindness and good humor. He cared about and was always interested in others which also made him such an interesting guy to be with. In many ways he was a leader by example. To me he was perhaps more like an uncle than a 1st cousin by marriage. Our heart and sympathies go out to all family members and friends.

"Mr. Otis", (aka Don in later life) was a natural educator and mentor. His humor was delightful and that meant that you wanted to attend his classes.
Two classic memories-
He had figured out exactly how many cups of coffee he was due daily while in the Navy. My memory is 50-60.
When we turned in writing assignments, he threatened (with a wry grin) to weigh them and thereby measure the amount of ink.
I had the honor of being a lab assistant, with Susan Saunders, and gained a great deal by his guidance.
Sympathies to his family.
