Edward Carleton Obituary

BRANDON - Edward John Carleton, age 63, passed away on his birthday, Thursday, February 16, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was born in Springfield on February 16, 1949. He was the son of Michael and Jessie (Johnson) Carleton. He was an avid hunter and spent many hours tramping his favorite places in "The Woods of Vermont." He shared a hunting camp on Fire Hill in Florence with his closest friends, Danny, Greg, Jeff and Paul Dahlin. Ed also enjoyed his road trips with his close friend, Rhodes Wyman, and camping at Sawmill Heights. Ed had worked as a machinist for General Electric for many years, retiring in 2009. He served honorably in the United States Army, as a medical corpsman.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Thibault) Carleton of Brandon, whom he married in Proctor on November 27, 1976; his mother, Jessie Carleton of Rutland; father-in-law Norm Thibault; brother Ken and his wife Donna; sisters, Ola Jones and her husband Ron, Bonnie Blair and her husband Wayne; sister-in-law Sandra Thibault. Many nieces, nephews and cousins, that were the joy of his life, also survive him. He was predeceased by his father, Mike; his sister, Shirley; mother-in-law Carolyn Thibault; sister-in-law Paula Thibault; and his nephew, B.J. Ellison.

In honoring his request, the memorial service will be private at a later date.

Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be made in his memory to The Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701; or to the Foley Cancer Center, c/o Rutland Hospital, 160 Allen St., Rutland, VT 05701.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

We last exchanged "hellos" at Kmart in Jan. Shocked and sorry to hear of the loss of "Eddie". We were childhood friends. I have our 1958 Proctor elementary school year book. With his picture and signature. I wish he could have had more opportunity to enjoy NOT being at GE any more. My prayers to all the friends and family of Ed.

It was always fun being with Ed and listening to his vivid stories at the Fire Hill camp. I was one of the Barre boys that were there for turkey hunting over many years and helped the guys build their present camp.
