Edward Goutas Obituary
He was born Sept. 12, 1942, in Bellows Falls, the son of Nicholas & Ida (Stankiewicz) Goutas.
He graduated from Bellows Falls High School in 1960, Saint Michael's College in 1964 and St. John's University School of Law in 1968.
After law school, Mr. Goutas was a New York state parole officer before returning to Vermont to practice law. He opened his own law practice in 1973 in Bellows Falls and later became a probate judge.
He enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and achieved the rank of life master. He retired to Florida with his wife, Nancy Holton Divoll. He achieved his first hole-in-one in golf on May 27, 2016, less than a month before his death.
Mr. Goutas is survived by his wife; sisters Cathy Bergmann of Bellows Falls and Dorothy Chapman of Louden, N.H.; nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, John Goutas.
The funeral will be held at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls at a later date, with burial at St. Charles' Cemetery.
