Frances Elmore Obituary

MIDDLEBURY - Frances "Fran" Elmore, age 86, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.
"Fran" was born in Detroit, MI, on Jan. 24, 1931. She was the daughter of Leslie and Elsie (Payne) Huff. She grew up in Royal Oak, MI, where she received her early education and was graduated from Royal Oak High School, class of 1949.
On April 13, 1957, she married Melvin Earl Elmore in Royal Oak. They moved from Troy, MI, to Pittsford, VT, in 1984, where they opened and ran Cox Mountain Inn for several years. Fran had also worked as a secretary at Brandon Training School from 1985 until it closed. Fran's circle of friends was vast, literally from the East to West Coast and Canada to London, England, including her Michigan girlfriend of more than 55 years, Ellie Wickersham, now of Summerville, SC.
She was a remarkable lady who connected with every one she met, making them feel like they were the most important. Fran's passions included traveling, reading, cooking and spending time with her family, believing her greatest achievement was her children and grandchildren and recently saying that her heart was so full, it could burst. She was a member of Brandon Congregational Church.
Surviving are her five children, Carol Kocik and her husband, Bart, Paul Elmore and his wife, Tammy, Tom Elmore and his wife, Kathy, Nancy Savage and her husband, Bill, and Daniel Elmore and his wife, Jeana; her grandchildren, Benjamin Elmore, Michael Elmore and his fiancée, Rose, Erik Elmore, Bridget Elmore and Colin Elmore. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin, and siblings, Kenneth, Betty and Donald.
The memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Brandon Congregational Church. The Rev. Bill Bartholomew, pastor, and the Rev. Richard White will co-officiate. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Following the ceremony, the family will receive friends in the church hall for a time of remembrance.
Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be made in her memory to Addison County Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT; or to Porter Hospital's Arch Room, 1 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

"OUR" Aunt Franny - She sure brightened up our lives both in Michigan and Vermont. And, she was soooo proud of her children and told the best stories EVER about them. I will never forget the year that Tommy asked for a light bulb on an extension cord for Christmas (because of how she told the story). Her devotion to our Uncle Mel was inspirational. I'm sorry for your loss and feel so blessed to have known her. Would love to see any of you when you travel to the Upper Valley or I travel your way. All our love, Karen Henry and Dave Cole

Dear Elmore Children,
I just came across this (9/1) and not sure if you'll receive it. Your mom was a wonderful, kind gentle lady and neighbor on Golden Drive as we were all raising our children My son Greg Watt used to play with Paul. Your mom and I emailed during the last 3 or so years. We kept talking about getting together, but it never happened. I know I'll see her when I get to heaven. My husband Robert DeLoose just passed away on July 25th. Blessings to all of you. I know how much you'll miss her. Marilyn (Watt) DeLoose

My thoughts and prayers were with you all, wishing I could have been with you today. Your mom had a special place in my heart. She always made me feel special, including me in Thanksgiving dinner after mom and dad moved to Arizona and welcoming me and Larry into her home at Easter in Vermont. I have missed those fun times. She will be missed so much by all those that were blessed by her love.

Lynn and l had such fun with your parents. Your Mom and Dad were such special people. We enjoyed them so much. We had such fun times with them both. Fran and I had the kind of friendship that just is always there even when you haven't seen each other in quite awhile. I loved her so much. She had a beautiful soul. I will miss her and I know how much she loved you. My heart goes out to you all-love, Mickey

Fran was my right arm for eight years at Brandon Training School and a treasured friend. We went through a lot together her and I always admired her positive spirit and empathy. While I have not seen her recently, I will always hold a special place in my heart for her.

Dear Carol, Paul, Tom, Nancy, and Dan,

We are so sad to hear of the passing of your dear mother. She was the sweetest lady, always there to lend a helping hand. She was so kind to us when our children were young, preparing meals and babysitting in our times of need.

May you find peace in your heart knowing that you will see her again someday in heaven.

With deepest sympathy and prayer,
Lyman and Carole Budnick and family

Brenda and I wanted to express our heartfelt sympathy. It was such a joy for us to have Fran and Mel come back into our lives after so many years. We'll never forget visiting with them in Vermont. Such sweet people. I spoke with my step-father ( Don
Franklin ) earlier this evening. He recalled when his mother gave Fran piano lessons when she was in grade school ! I think they lived on Midland Street in Royal Oak at the time. You're in our thoughts and prayers.

Aunt Fran was one of the sweetest people I knew. I always enjoyed talking with her and will miss her smile. Although I won't be able to join Steve when he travels to Vermont for her service, she will be in my heart and prayers. Dear cousins, I am so very sorry for the loss of your mother. May she rest in peace.

With My son.
