Alex was born in Leavenworth, KS on Aug. 15, 1918 to Harry and Eva Donsker. The family, with sister Betty, moved to Chico, CA when Alex was 4. He loved pointing this fact out to his youngest grandson who graduated from Chico State some 65 years later. Alex graduated from Cal Berkeley in 1940 with a degree in Journalism. He owned and operated Del Paso Pipe and Machinery in North Sacramento until his retirement in 1985. But none of this is important....what is important is his wonderful, loving, 61 year marriage to Rose who now lives in Napa near their son Bruce and daughter Terrie (Jim) Galassi and his enjoyment spending time with his grandsons, Seth and Nathan and Seth's wife, Lisa. Alex and Rose met at Camp Sacramento in the early 1940's. Rose joined the Wave's and was waiting to report. Alex said that if she refused his marriage offer one more time and joined the Waves he would not be waiting. They married on the same day she was to report, Feb. 14, 1943. ''Grandpa'' also had a love affair with the 49'ers. He and Rose have had season tickets from the 49'ers playing days at Kezar Stadium. They lived in Sacramento until moving to Napa in 2001 to be nearer their children. Joint Funeral service for Alex and his brother-in-law Herman Aronson will be held at 10:30am on Thursday at Home of Peace, 6200 Stockton Blvd. Arrangements are under the care of Lind Brother's Mortuary in Sacramento 916-482-8080. Daddy loved the flowers in Rose's garden but he loved giving to charities even more.
