Alma Baumgart

1925 - 2025

Alma "Renee" Baumgart, 99, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, in Newport Beach, California. Born on November 7, 1925, Renee lived a long and fulfilling life marked by resilience, dedication, and enduring friendships.

She was educated at Del Paso Heights Elementary and graduated from Grant Union High School in 1942. She later attended American River College. Following the passing of her husband, J. Robert Baumgart, in 1977, Renee assumed leadership of his general construction business and successfully completed several projects. She then embarked on a second career in the accounting office of the Clay Arnold Law Firm, where she worked for over thirty years before retiring in 2015.

Renee was deeply involved in her community and charitable causes. She served as Past President of the Sacramento Children's Home Guild and remained active in civic organizations throughout her life. A devoted bridge player, she was a long-standing member of two bridge clubs whose friendships enriched her life for decades. She also treasured the many memorable trips she shared with close friends and family.

Renee is lovingly remembered by her children: Terry Baumgart, Nancy Coonis, and William Baumgart; daughter-in-law Jane Baumgart; son-in-law John Coonis; sisters Betty Jane "Nonnie" Powell and Shirli Madderra; grandchildren Christin Baumgart, Kelsey Baumgart, Madeline Baumgart, and Will Baumgart; and great-grandson Noah Scevers.

She was preceded in death by her husband J. Robert Baumgart; sisters Patricia Adams, June Fetch, and Barbara Vroman; brothers William Smith, Al Smith Jr., and Jack Smith; and grandson Martin Cook.

A Memorial Mass will be held on November 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church, 3235 Arden Way, Sacramento, CA 95825. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation or Sacramento Children's Home.
