Andrew Todd Stevens
STEVENS, Andrew Todd

Today, Andy is with his Lord, Jesus Christ. Andrew Todd Stevens was born February 25, 1968 in Sacramento, CA. He is the son of John and Patricia Stevens and the brother of Mark Stevens. The Stevens family, to this day, still resides in the Greater Sacramento area.

Andy attended Kohler Elementary School in North Highlands. After leaving Kohler, Andy went to Carmichael Baptist Academy where he graduated in 1986. Following High School, Andrew attended American River and Sacramento City College and pursued an education in Criminal Justice. He knew that Law Enforcement was his career of choice, and worked part-time as a Security Guard to gain experience. During his college years, Andy worked other side jobs such as construction and concrete work. These skills came in handy in his later years when he assisted countless family and friends with home improvement projects.

During Andy's pursuit of a career, he traveled to the States of Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Utah and Nevada applying for a position as an Officer. In May 1994, Andy was selected for the Position of State Officer-Cadet at the California Highway Patrol Academy. Upon graduation, he was assigned to road patrol in Baldwin Park. From there, he transferred and worked in San Jose, Golden Gate Communications Center and Golden Gate Division, Woodland and was currently assigned as a Commercial Officer assigned to Valley Division-Woodland Area in May 2002.

While working the beat in Woodland, Andy met his bride Michelle, at an accident scene. Michelle was an E.M.T. for AMR Ambulance and explained to Andy how she needed to shut down the I-5 to land a helicopter. Andy wasn't too fond of this idea, but realizing that this was going to be his future wife, agreed. Good move. Andy married Michelle on October 20, 2002 in Lake Tahoe.

Andy and Michelle loved to travel. They went all over the world including a memorable trip to Europe. While in Europe, Andy and Michelle rented a Full Dresser Harley and rode through Germany. After dropping off the bike, the two jumped on a train and traveled through Switzerland, Italy, France, and the Netherlands. Most recently, Andy and Michelle took an Alaskan Cruise. Other great memories included attending the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and a road trip to Vancouver where Michelle remembers stopping at every Harley Davidson Shop along the way. They also took a three week ride to Milwaukee to celebrate the 100 Year Anniversary of Harley Davidson in 2003. Now thats devotion to America's favorite bike!

Andy packed so much into his life. He was the Director of the Auburn Chapter of HOG (Harley Owners Group) and was instrumental in numerous charitable events. He was in his second year of organizing the Annual Toy Run in Auburn, which raises toys for over 1000 disadvantaged children in the community.

Andy was a blessing to everyone who was touched by him. He planned neighborhood campouts yearly and was the driving force for many to buy Harleys in his cul-de-sac. Andy was one of those guys that you could only love. He would help everyone, and if he could not personally meet your needs, he knew others that could.

He was instrumental in his local church and his Christian faith was contagious! He brought a glow into every life he entered with his love and commitment to family, friends, community, and his love for his Lord.

Andy is survived by his beloved wife, Michelle; his parents, John and Patricia Stevens; mother-in-law, Kathleen; his brother, Mark and sister-in-law, Kimberly; sister-in-law, Nahrain and brother-in-law, Ezaria; nieces, Jessica and Alyssa; nephew, Michael; and his Bassett Hounds, Abby and Rocky, along with numerous other family and friends.

It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, but
it's what you leave behind you when you go.

It's been almost a year Andy since you were taken from us. I know that we should rejoice and I do when I look up and see the stars and moon and think that you see so much more than I do. Kim, Liz, Lorretta & I plan our own memorial and will grieve in private as we did when you were killed. I loved you at 15 and I love you still today and miss you as I do my own son. Love, Judi

Andy was very special in that he had good thoughts about everyone he came in contact with. He was like my Dad in that he never met a stranger. He was so very easy to talk to and I am so very proud to have called him a member of our family. He will always be in our memories and I thank God for every memory that I have of him. God blessed us all with his presence on this earth and the loss of his presence here is more than words can explain. I love you Andy and you will be terribly missed, but I expect to see you in heaven someday. LOVE, SHARYL

Dear Michelle,

I am a registered nurse who writes poetry as healing from my own pain of losses. The following poem I wrote about a year ago and I thought it would bring you some comfort. Bless you, Dorothy Small

A Warm Place Beside Me

When you reach out for me
in the night and I am not there,
please do not weap for me for I am only asleep.
Do not awaken me from my slumber.
I have prepared a warm place
for you beside me
where we shall forever embrace.
In this spiritual abode
love is all that remains,
everything else is left behind.
In my dreams I hear the echo
of your innocent laughter.
Love is the heart that beats within me,
and your essence is the life-giving blood
that flows through my veins.
Think not that I have gone from you,
love that is real never dies.
Close your eyes my love,
for tonight I shall enter your dream
and our spirits shall dance with joy.

Angel of the Day

Angel of the day
Guard of the night
Black and white
His mission to protect
Although paid by man
Ordained by God
To care for those
Who are loved by Him
To have given his life
For the sake of another
Is the greatest love of all
God bless this man
Who gave his life
So that the rest
Would know His peace

Pat, John, Mark, & Michelle: our hearts are broken and even 2 weeks later it still hurts so deeply! I can't even imagine how your heart is feeling! Andy was such a blessing, I still remember, Pat when you told me you were expecting him!! How excited we were! He has been such a joy and blessing and was such a tease as a young man growing up! Always smiling and hugging and just loving life and everyone in it! There has been a large hole created in everyone's life w/his loss. We feel so cheated not to have gotten to be around him as a man and will feel the loss for the rest of our lives! We are so proud, though to have known and been a small part of his life as he was growing up. Our prayers are w/you all and you can count on us for anything that will make your lives easier. Please call if we can help in ANY way!! Love, Carolyn & Mike McElroy

Andy had a kind word, a big smile and a big hug for me, even after I "fired" him as road captain on the Elko 2004 Aurburn HOG trip......what great times. I felt like I was with you all during this terrible loss...even all the way over here in Kuwait...where I cried like a baby in front of 25 military guys...and didn't care who saw me, when I read the email of the loss of one of the best around. I miss you and the good times and to Michelle....can you feel my hug from the other side of the planet? I'm squeezing hard. Love,

God saw a man so gentel
And a loving husband he so be
So he put his arms around him
and wispered "come to me"
With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay
A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

Our hearts and thoughts are with you Michelle

Dear Stevens Family,

I'm sincerely sorry for you lost and can not begin to imagine how you feel. My only words of inspiration is this. "Andy is enveloped in the arms of our Lord Jesus, and Michelle my prayer for you and your family, is that you find comfort and peace through Christ during this time. Andy, is not only a hero, he’s now a guardian angel". Peace be with you Steven’s Family.

Michelle, I had the opportunity to know Andy while he was attending Sac City College's Academy prior to being hired by the California Highway Patrol. He was my partner in a lot of class activities. I never met a nicer gentleman or a happier guy. I went to work at Stockton PD after the academy but was there for Andy's graduation from CHP. I know he was proud and so was I. No matter where I ran into Andy he was happy to see me and treated you like you were someone special. Nothing I say can ever heal the hurt that you feel. I will miss him too. God bless you and all the family members. And remember that all of us in law enforcement are here for you at any time. We will always be your extended family. You and Andy will be in my heart and in my prayers.

Andy was a great friend. He brought sunshine everywhere he went. I just want you to know that the Fire Service community in Yolo County was saddened by your loss. He spent three days at UC Davis Fire Dept, showing the firefighters how to keep there apparatus road worthy. All at UCDFD will always carry a memory of Andy in are hearts. He was a great man and a hero. The County Departments sent 12 Fire Apparatus to the procession and we were honored to be a part of the services. He has touched more people then you could ever imagine. He will be missed.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the senseless death of such a fine man and CHP Officer. I am a retired truck driver - owner who worked out of Woodland for many years, and had met Officer Stevens. He made my life easier and safer. If there is any consolation to be had, it is in knowing that he died doing what he loved.May the lord give you peace until you are together again.

To Michelle, Family & Friends,

I had the honor and privilege of serving with Andy and more importantly knowing him. We are all better for knowing him and words could never express the impact he has made on so many lives. He ended his watch on 17 November 2005. However, we will carry on his tradition for eternity. We will never forget him and he will always live on in our hearts! You and your family, just as Andy, were not related to us in blood. However, all of you will always be part a of our family!

God bless you!

On 8/20/1980, Andy came to know the Lord as his personal saviour at church's youth camp. The Carmichael Baptist Church Youth group all rejoiced with him that day as he was beaming. The last time we talked to Andy, he talked of his job as a California Highway Patrol officer. He said he loved his work. We were happy for him.
Prov. 21:21 and 12B seem to speak of Andy. He followed after righteousness and found a life that made him happy. He was honored yesterday by many and there was an outpouring of love to his family. Andy has been promoted and we will see him again one day. Our prayers are with his parents, John and Pat, wife, Michele, brother, Mark and Kim too.

I know that there are no words at this time that will take away your pain or make this any easier. Please just know that you are in our thoughts and our prayers. Rest in peace Officer Stevens.

We had the pleasure of working with Andy on a few different occassions when he would perform Commercial Vehicle inspections at our gaming facility. Not only was Andy always professional but he was also a very nice guy. If Law Enforcement had more like Andy we would have no need for Internal Affairs Divisions. Law Enforcement and society as a whole lost a great man. He will not be forgotten. Our condolences go out to his wife and family.

God bless and Godspeed, Andy. We will miss you and will never forget your commitment and sacrifice. Your loss is tremendous and we are all affected, Peace Officers and civilians alike. With all the tragedy we have had this year, it pains me to think of your loss. My best wishes and condolences to your family - Time will heal and memories will last forever.

To the Stevens Family~ I did not know Andrew however from what I have seen and heard was that he was a hero and a Officer who loved his job.I have many friends that are Officers with other agencys in the area and I just cant imagine my everyday life with out them. You were a true hero in what your job required you to perform. I respect all of the chp officers for keeping our streets a safe place to drive in. For your wife, Just remember the good times that you and Andy shared and all the memories that you had together during the time that you spent together being husband and wife.I send my thoughts and prayers to you and your family in this time of grieving , And ps: Andy take care of Matt Redding while you are up there watching down below on your loved ones ~God bless ~
