Anita Wonder Obituary

Wonder, Anita Kay (Yount) Anita Y. Wonder passed away peacefully on May 30, 2015 after a prolonged illness. Anita was born in Paris, Illinois to Lewis Lee and Ruby M. Yount. She moved from Illinois to California as a child and spent the rest of her life living in California. Anita obtained her bachelor of science in microbiology at University of California, Davis in 1966. She worked briefly at the Almond Growers Association, then worked at Kaiser Foundation hospitals and clinics as a senior clinical laboratory scientist from 1971 to 2005. During that time she obtained her master of arts in criminal justice and founded the Wonder Institute, a forensic science consulting, training and research association specializing in bloodstain pattern evidence. She provided training and assistance to many law enforcement agencies worldwide, private investigators and attorneys for both the prosecution and defense. Working with these many agencies, Anita with her untouchable ethical values, could not be swayed in her opinions. She told it like it is, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues, many of whom became close friends as well. After retiring from Kaiser, she continued her passion to teach in the forensic field publishing three textbooks on bloodstain pattern evidence, the last of which was published this year (2015). Her associations with The American Academy Of Forensic Sciences (FELLOW), The American Association For The Advancement Of Science, The California Association Of Criminalists and The International Association Of Bloodstain Pattern Analysts were among her most treasured accomplishments. Anita was a world traveler and international speaker, adventurer, avid animal lover, and gardener. To all that knew her, she was A. Wonder. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of their choice in Anita's honor, or to one of her favorite charities: The Wounded Warrior Project or The Sacramento Council On Deafness. Family and friends are invited to attend Anita's memorial service, Saturday June 20, 2015 at 11:00 am at W. F. Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95811.
