Anne Moffatt Conway Obituary

Anne Moffatt Conway
December 5, 1936 - May 17, 2022
Sacramento , California - Anne Moffatt Conway passed away peacefully on May 17th, 2022 in her home. "Moff", as she was universally known, was a member of the Stanford University Class of 1959, beginning her years at the school in Roble Hall. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, but lived most of her life in Sacramento, CA. In her 50's, she began years of globe-trotting as she accompanied her husband, Pat, a civil engineer, on a series of year-long stints in cities both foreign and domestic. She effortlessly adjusted to the complexities of living, shopping, cooking, and entertaining in unique situations, and thrived on the associated challenges. Once back in Sacramento, she remained an energetic traveler and joined various Stanford friends to explore points near and far. Knowledgeable about antiques of all periods and Countries, she maintained a boutique where items from her travels found a home beside more traditional antiques. Anne majored in American Literature and was a lifelong reader with a special focus on World War II. She enjoyed writing and participated in a series of memoir writing classes at Sacramento State. Acting as a juror in moot court for the McGeorge School of Law fed her fascination with law and the court system. Her parents both attended Stanford, and her father, Phil Moffatt, was a college football All-American in 1930 and was inducted into Stanford's Hall of Fame. Not surprisingly, Anne was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable fan of Stanford's football team. In later years, she also served as class correspondent for the Stanford Alumni magazine. Preceded in death by Ed Bayless, father of her son Michael, Anne is survived by her son, grandson Alex Bayless, and brother Bill Moffatt. She will be missed by all who knew her.

I sat behind Anne at Sac High in Mr. Linn's Orientation class & Mrs. V. Smith's English classes, and remembered how bright she was. Interesting to read her bio after not seeing her all these years. May she rest in peace, and may God comfort her family.
