January 27, 1924 - November 25, 2021
Sacramento , California - Anne Rudin passed away on Thanksgiving Day at the age of 97.
Born in New Jersey in 1924, she grew up in Philadelphia and attended Temple University, earning degrees in education & nursing. She worked as a nurse before & after moving to California in 1948 with her husband, psychiatrist Edward Rudin.
In 1958, they relocated to Sacramento with their 4 children. Having co-founded & served as president of the Riverside League of Women Voters, Anne became the Sacramento LWV president, followed by state president.
In 1971, she was elected to the Sacramento City Council, serving 3 terms before running for mayor. Her mayoral win made her the capital city's first publicly elected female mayor. After 2 terms as mayor, she retired from office, continuing to do public service and community work.
If you are so moved, Anne would have appreciated donations to the LWV's Anne Rudin Scholarship Fund, Physicians for Social Responsibility (a group in which she & Ed were both active), or to one of the local music, art, or theater organizations at whose shows you may have crossed paths. She truly loved chatting with people at those events.
A memorial will be held at a date TBA in 2022.

Ann spoke italian coming from italian lineage-she belonged to the italian cultural society in sacramento--she narrated the nutcracker in sacto and gave me a copy of her narration--she gave me cassettes of italian music that she liked--when hundreds of protests of war policy marched to city hall-she came out and talked to them---- at the state capitol- the republican governor would not speak with them --resta in pace -cara anna- per eternita per una vita abitato bene-- tony damiani ---
