Barbara Mecchi Obituary

Barbara Bryson Mecchi, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home on January 9, 2018. Though she spent most of her years in Sacramento, Barbara also enjoyed living in San Francisco as a young adult, and continued to love the city throughout the rest of her life. She is the widow of Raymond Mecchi, to whom she was married for 40 years until his death in 1988, and had one brother, David Byrns, who also preceded her in death. She is survived by her three daughters, Meme Whichard, Barbara Mecchi-Mette, and Lisa Griffin, and her grandchildren, Richard, Niklas, Todd, and Amanda. Barbara also had five great-grandchildren, Jack, Sophie, Brooke, Luke, and Owen, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who loved and adored her. Affectionately known as 'Ba' by her family, Barbara worked for the League of California Cities in Sacramento while also dedicating much of her time to helping care for her family. She had a contagious laugh, a quick wit, and a kind heart and was a warm and generous woman. The family is also grateful for her caregiver, Camari, for the love and care she provided to Ba for almost two decades. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 1040 39th Street, Sacramento, CA on Sat. January 27, 2018 at 11 am with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Barbara's name to Dignity Hospice, through the following address: Mercy Foundation, 3400 Data Drive, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670.
