We were shocked and saddened to hear of Bart's passing. Though we only saw each other at TC meets he had become one of our special friends and we always looked forward to seeing the family. This past year he even entrusted one of his TC's to us to drive on the rally so we wouldn't have to drive our rental car (a bright orange mustang :( )
May God wrap you in his comforting arms as only He can do. Bart will be truely missed.

Debbie: I was stunned and saddened to learn of Bart's passing. I worked with Bart for over 7 years and loved every minute of my employment with him. He was a true gentleman and always had a thank you for my hard work. He also was my recruiter when I joined the Air Force Reserve. We had many happy times together. My heart goes out to you and your family. I will truly miss him. Vicki & Bill Wise

Dear Debbie and family,
I am shocked to learn of Bart's leaving us. I can remember the sunny days in Hawaii when you found each other. The joy you shared together has been a gift for all of us to watch, to see such love and admiration between two people. Debbie, I know Bart is with our Lord. The kindness and guidance he gave freely to many will never be forgotten. My prayers are with you and your family Debbie.

Bart was a true inspiration to everyone who ever worked for him, because you always knew you were working WITH him. He was one of the finest officers, commanders, and gentleman I ever had the honor of working with in more than 30 years of service.

Like Al Lamons, Karen Red, Stu McIntosh, and the many others of the 65th that I knew while there between 1973 and December 1981, I also greatly liked and appreciated Bart Aspling. He was a gentle spirited man, and always seemed upbeat.
Such people tend to be remembered because of their gentle humanity and kindness, as well has their unquestionable integrity.
My memories of my days with the 65th are filled with happy thoughts of the many wonderful people who seemed to be drawn to this organization because of a common interest in healing and helping others and one another. It was a GOOD place to be, as I grew into early manhood. I had many examples of excellent character to look upon as role models, both in the enlisted ranks and the officer ranks.
There are many people I sorely miss now, because I have lost contact with them. Among them were Karen Red, Al Lamons, Mary Clair Rohret, Sarah Gray, Gayle Gryphan, Sandy Miller, Captain Erikson and his wife Sandy Erikson, Jill Brown, Sgt.'s Sweet and Eckelburger, Ted Back, Craig Gorely (now somewhere in Iraq with the Army and a bird Colonel I am told).

Such wonderful people, all of them.
Some of you may not be aware that there is an annual party for 65th and 349th personnel, former and present each year. This year it is in March, I think, but if any of you were unaware of it and want to go, I believe I can find out when and where it is from either Doug Archdeacon or Sam Kittle. Just let me know or contact either of them yourself.

I wish you all well. Please feel free to contact me for any reason.

Col Bart Aspling was always someone who would take time to speak with you or share a thought to help you make sense of something that was going wrong for you at the time. I had the honor and priviledge to serve with Col Aspling in the 65/349 AES until he left to become commander of the 349 ASTS. He leaves behind a wonderful wife and family who love him and will miss him very much but more than that he leaves behind a legacy that will be hard to match by many that follow him.

What can anyone say but great things about this man of honor? Kind, gentle spirited, loving father, even keeled, and hard working man. Our family is grateful for his years of service but moreover his personal attention to making his acquaintances feel like long time friends.
To Deb and the Aspling family, we are rest assured Bart is now enjoying a new life in heaven with Christ. May the Lord give you comfort and a joyous heart to know that he is with Him.

Bart (Col Aspling) was a true leader, gentleman, friend and mentor. I will miss his charm and kind words of wisdom that touched me in many positive ways. Dear Steven, David and Laura:
In the middle 3rd of his life, your dad was the "spark plug" of what he called our "jet set." His ideas, his energy, his sense of fun, his ability to travel more places in one night than anyone else we knew, were his calling card. All agreed he was the truest of friends.
He was one of 4 generations of Aspling/Billings friendship and Christian service on your gramma's side, spanning Illinois to California.
How unspeakably much he will be missed! Love to you each and the rest of your family at this difficult time.
