Bob Griswold Obituary

This beloved father of five, grandfather of four, and cherished husband passed away peacefully on November 12, 2016. Born in Sacramento on November 28, 1938 to Lawrence M. and Gertrude A. (Pickering) Griswold, Bob lived the first 30 years of his life in Carmichael, and the last 45 in Wilton with his wife Cindy. He graduated with the 1st class of El Camino HS ('57) and went on to work at Aerojet, ran a Christmas decorating business for cities and then for 35 years owned Apache Industrial Cleaning Equipment and served as President of the national Cleaning Equipment Trade Association. Bob was artistic, creative and multi-talented. He learned how to build houses...three with his wife Cindy in their 'spare' time after regular jobs and on weekends. He was most proud of the final Straw Bale house, built with the help of family and dear friends. He loved his family, loved to travel, loved music and loved riding his tractor. His dementia made the last few years difficult, but his love and grace returned when his daughter Sabrina moved back home to care for him while Cindy was at work. The essence of Bob was his joie de vivre, his humor, his kindness and his generosity. Please email: [email protected] for info on a celebration of his life.

Today Bob's memory came to me about the time we worked together at Western Auto in Carmichael as teenagers. He was so much fun to be around and he offered to teach me waterskiing. I am so sorry to learn that he has past but so pleased to hear of his wonderful family.

Bob was the best. I first met him when I was 15, before he met his second wife. He was my first crush, in every sense of the word. He was the one that smoothed over ruffled feathers created by others. He was the one that included everyone, making sure no one felt left out, no matter what others did. He showered the love and kindness that was Bob, upon everyone he met. There was not one person he came in contact with, that didn't love him. He was generous, fun & non-judgmental. Bob always had a ready smile, an open heart and wallet whenever he saw a need or just because. Bob was one of the good ones.

My condolences to the Griswold Family. I had the opportunity to meet Bob in his twilight years. He carved out a piece of heaven on earth with his house and garden in the country.

Dad loved life, loved others, and couldn't stand the losses from dementia. He'll always be happy, because he always was. We will miss him so very much along the way. Carry on, Grizzy, you are my hero.
