Bob Smith Obituary
SMITH, Bob
85, of the Elk Grove area and native of Queens, NY, passed away Dec 3, 2008. Bob lived in EG since 1990, moving there soon after retiring from the aerospace industry where he worked for Convair, Lockheed, and Grumman, among others. A former Marine who served in WW2 and Korea, he did not want to sit quietly at home in retirement and by 1995 he was employed by AmVets to work at the Sacramento VA Medical Center as a Field Service Officer, assisting other vets in securing their VA benefits. He worked until Aug 2008, when he finally retired at age 85. Bob was with his family when he passed, who love him very much and will miss him always especially his wit and his kindness. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at St. Francis of Assisi, 1066 26th St at 10am on Jan 3 and/or a memorial at VFW Post 85, 7125 Governors Cir at 12:30pm on Jan 17. He will be interred at a later date at Quantico National Cemetery with full military honors.

How do you thank a man who is willing to take on three more children and go on to father two more. All I can say is how thankful I am that you did and the fact that "family A", from the start, embraced us is a testament to your good nature and the values that you have instilled in us all. Dear Bob, You were always a very special person. Frank and I knew you best when you worked for Grumman in Virginia. You always had a smile for everyone and a laugh too. It doesn't surprise us as we read your obituary about how you helped so many people during your lifetime. The years have separated us but not the memories. I remember all the children when they were little and now so grown up and having children of their own. I know you had a full life and a good one. "Always about God's business." We are so sorry that the years and miles have separated us, but as you know no one stays in one place anymore. We should have stayed in touch. Somehow life gets in the way. We know how much your family will grieve and miss you. You were always there for them. Until we meet again Bob, May God hold you in the palm of his hand. Love and God Bless, Ann and Frank

I met Bob when Cassandra and I were in high school. I had the privilege/responsibility/fun of driving Cass to school. Upon taking on this role, Bob asked me, “How fast do you drive?”, which seemed like a trick question to my 16-year-old mind. I guess I hesitated a moment too long because he answered, “The speed limit. You drive the speed limit.” There was never any doubt of how much he loved his family – or even their slow-to-answer friends. Bob will be greatly missed.

Daddy, I miss you very much. I will miss your sense of humor. I will miss the devilish look you used to get in your eyes when you thought some thing was truly funny, and you and I were the only one's that got it.
I am happy you came to all my children's weddings and were there for all the births of their babys....your great grandchildren..the 9th one will be born in a few days...a boy to be named Elijah.
I am proud that you were my Father. Proud of the man you were..and proud of the Marine that I remember so well as a young girl. I am proud of all the work accomplished by you for the space industry. You are my hero...and I will miss you all my life long.

Daddy, what will we do without you? Your phone calls about dinner, seeing you each summer, getting your cards, hearing about work.... you are always in my heart forever. I do mourn the fact you will not be here for my children to continue to know and appreciate the man you were.
