It is so odd that I even found this web site, Brett was one of my close friends in undergraduate school. We attended Parsons college together 40 years ago. I am affected on so many levels by the news of his passing, the way he evolved as an adult, the person he became. As a young boy at college
Brett was a different person, as was I. My only regret is that we never met again after graduating and moving forward with our respective lives. I knew him like few others, and I know his strong spirit survives somewhere in some form. My belated condolences to his family.

I worked with Brett Ferguson on a few photo shoots as a model. He had such a wonderful personality & such a creative eye. He will be truly missed!

Brett once asked me if I believed that you could be reborn after you died. I believe that great souls never leave us and that they leave their impression on us all as part of their rebirth. Brett, you were a great soul. You once told me never to underestimate the effect I had on students. You were so full of wonderful hope for the kids we served. I will always miss you. You were one of the coolest people I have ever known.

I met Brett my first year in Washington USD in 1986. I enjoyed his wit and intelligence immediately. We spent many long days in I.E.P. meetings discussing students, but over time I came to know Brett more personally and treasured the short times we were able to catch up during the school years. We took a summer Spanish class together one year, and we had a ball. He was incredibly helpful to me in that class. I felt particularly close to Brett when I adopted my daughter from India, and he was so genuinely happy for me. He ultimately took a beautiful photo of her and my stepdaughter that still gets compliments. I was glad to be able to share in his joy when Shay came into his life. I will really miss Brett, and I send my blessings for his next adventure.

Brett and I used to run from the old River City High campus around Capitol Park and back just about every week. I once watched him run a sub-6 minute mile on the dusty RCHS track when he was in his late 40's. We took the stage once to play some rock and roll in a district talent show. He was great at his job, upbeat, and an example of how to live. We would all do well to appreciate life as he did. My condoences to his family.

I am truly sorry to hear of Brett's passing. Although we seldom interacted at work, he was one of the first people I ate lunch with when I started at WUSD. He was calming to be around and I am sure he will be greatly missed.

I have very special memories of Brett working at Elkhorn Village Elementary~ once I got to know him, I really appreciated his incredible sense of humor and personable personality! I especially cherish the memory of a short ride in his Jaguar after lunch at Sal's. I applaud his positive attitude after his cancer diagnosis, and his will to live life on his terms. His legacy lives on. I send my condolences and blessings to his family and friends.

Shall really miss you, Brett. It was great working together the last 10 years. Am glad that you had these last two years at the high school, the group you most loved working with.
To Kathy and Shay, I hope Brett's great attitude and belief in rebirth will help sustain you. My thoughts are with you, especially over these next weeks.

Brett was my friend and mentor. I had the privelige of working under him and along side of him. He was a multi-faceted individual. He always amazed me with his breathe of world knowledge and his ability to learn foreign languages. You could always rely on him to bring comic relief to any situation. He will be missed

I will never forget the time Brett helped me persuade a special education student not to sit in the street outside Elkhorn Elementary by promising the boy a wrestling figure. Brett knew exactly what the boy wanted, and it worked. Brett had a calming effect, and he cared about children in a way that helped them feel secure. David Kopperud (Sacramento, CA)

Brett was a wonderful, caring person and I am deeply saddened to hear about his passing. I will miss working with him but know that he is in a better place now. Brett helped many students in the Washington Unified School District and his legacy will live on in the memories of those he helped. My deepest sympathies go out to the family.

It was with shock and sadness that I read of Brett's passing. He was the School Psychologist who worked at Westfield while I was a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher there. He helped my students with their challenges. A gentle man, Brett always had a smile and a kind word. He raved over his mother-in-law's vegetarian cooking at Thanksgiving:) My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Brett was a wonderful colleague and friend and a consummate professional in his capacity as school psychologist in the Washington Unified School District in West Sacramento. I know that I'll miss his friendly, gentle, and easy-going manner in an environment that can get pretty stressful. My thoughts go out to his family and loved ones; know that Brett was highly regarded and just a great guy. - Gerald O'Connor, River City High School
