Brian Nicholson Obituary

NICHOLSON, Brian F.
Age 40, left behind a legacy of love, giving and inspiration to not only his family, but a myriad of friends, co-workers and neighbors, when we he left us on Sunday, January 8, 2006. He will be remembered for his love of family, friends and his caring for all who came into his sphere. He was recognized for his volunteer work, his generosity, his tolerance and his commitment to his family, his responsibilities and to his role in life as a leader.

He will be greatly missed by so many, but most of all by his two children Becca and Zach, his loving wife for many years, Lisa, of Folsom, his loving parents, Frank and Vi Nicholson of Granite Bay and his brother Skip Parker and Skips wife Regina of Brentwood, and their sons Jeremy, Joshua and Joel. Brians brother Scott Parker and his wife Jan and their daughter Kira from Sarasota, FL, his sister Darcy Wharton and her husband Robert and their three girls, Jessica, Sarah and Emily, from Rocklin, CA. will all find life tougher without "Uncle Brian." His brother Ken Nicholson, wife Melissa and children Alex and Jenny, of San Ramon, CA will greatly miss Brians love, humor and support as will his brother Jeff from Colorado, and Jeff's children Krystal, Suzie, Kayla and Jeffrey.

Brian was a loving, funny, generous member of his family whose death leaves a black hole in all our hearts. His presence and loving ways made life a better place for us all. Brian was a dedicated California Highway Patrol Sergeant Officer with 17 years of service and was recognized as a leader, a brilliant investigator and as a good friend a counselor to anyone in need. He was also highly respected for his work as a camp director at Riverway Ranch Camp in Sanger, CA, where he touched many lives, providing a nurturing and open environment for so many young people and for the camp staff and owners. All those who had an opportunity to know him will cherish the memory of Brian, or Augie, as he was known at camp. Clearly, God needed another angel to help organize, run and inspire Camp Heaven, and so he was taken from us much sooner than we can understand, or deal with. We cant imagine life without him.

Services for Brian will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11:00 AM, at Lakeside Church, 745 Oak Avenue Pkwy, in Folsom. The family requests that instead of flowers those that want to "do something" can send a donation to the Brian "Augie" Nicholson fund, c/o-Central Valley Community Bank, 600 Pollasky, Clovis, CA 93612, This fund will provide scholarships to the Riverway Ranch camp for children who would otherwise not be able to attend a summer camp. Brian believed that time at summer camp was often a key to helping young people find out who they are and to allow them to set their life in a positive direction.

Augie was someone who was a light for River Way. He always was joking around, keeping things funny, but bearing the responisiblity that comes with being a River Way Director. He reminds me a lot of how I am and reminded me during the summer that even thought things might not be going to right way for me, camp is all about laughing and that is why we keep coming back. It is also why we loved him so much...Augie was all about laughing too. He will be missed on more levels than most will know.

To Lisa, Rebecca, Zac and the Entire Nicholson Family. I am so sorry for your loss.

Brian (Augie) was someone I looked up to when I first went to "Champ Camp" as a young counselor. To me, Brian always showed composure and strength and gave those around him plenty to laugh about. I am very saddened by his passing. For all that I admired and remembered about Brian, I will take with me throughout my life. The camp song, "Going on a Lion Hunt" just won't be the same.

I knew Brian as a neighbor to my sister and brother-in-law. I was touched every year by his generosity in leading the annual Halloween parade and sponsoring snacks along with his wife for those hungry treat or treaters. He helped so many children have happy childhood memories of neighborhood get-togethers. People like Brian make this world a better place. His legacy perhaps is that more people will be inspired by his examples to reach out and help others. My heart goes out to his children.

Vi, Frank and Family:

Adrianne talked to Regina this morning. Although I have only known Brian through our association over the years, I feel I've known him from your Christmas letters. He obviously was a wonderful man. Augie had the kind of energy and enthusiasm that was contagious. He was a great leader for the River Way staff. I will remember him for all of the jokes and laughter that surrounded him at camp. My thoughts and prayers are with Giggles, Becca and Zach.

I am still in shock over the passing of Augie. My heart and prayers go out to the family especially to his son and daughter Zach and Becca. I will always remember how much he loved working with Children. He was always there for me at camp and I learned alot from him.

My fondest memory was when he to leave camp early one session and he did fly bye . He tilted the plane's wings twards camp as if he was waiving goodbye to all of us. Thank you Augie for all the fun memories and conversations we shared at camp. I will always remember you.

Rest in Peace

Lisa, Becca, Zach, Frank and Vi, we can only imagine what you are going through. Lisa, we met you all only 9 years ago but you have and will always be our "neigbor nots." Brian was a not only a great friend but a fantastic neigbor and will forever be missed by the Barbieri family. He and you will always be in our prayers and I know that "Camp Heaven" is a better place now with Brian in it.

Brian was our friend and neighbor. Our kids really loved the neighborhood tradition at Halloween. They all paraded behind his patrol car last year. We will think of him often and he will really be missed by our family. We are so saddened by the heartache his passing will cause his family and friends. Our prayers are with you all.

Augie's positive, encouraging, and upbeat personality will be greatly missed. Although I only worked with him this past season, he was always there to offer support and kind words to not only myself but to anyone who crossed his path. Counselors and campers alike flocked to Augie. Sometimes just to be around him was enough to get a counselor or camper through a difficult day. Augie has truly left a void that will be impossible to fill. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Giggles, Becca, Zach, and the entire Nicholson family. While we all would much rather want Augie here with us, take comfort in knowing that he has gone onto a much better place and that one day we will all meet up again in Camp Heaven.

May God be with you all during this difficult time.

Augie was one of those people that only comes around once in a life time. He was always willing to put others before him. It is hard to find someone who can be such an amazing mentor to everyone. Giggles, Zach and Becca...I am very sorry for you lose and hope you can find some way to get through what I can only imagine to be a very hard time. Augie..you will be missed by all.
