Charles CANEZ Obituary

CANEZ, III, Charles D.
Was born in Los Angeles, CA on July 18, 1940 and passed away on November 6, 2011 in Roseville, CA surrounded by his two loving sons, Chad and Brad Canez and his nephew Jim Swenson. Charles was a caring father, grandfather and brother who is also survived by his special granddaughter Olivia Canez; his loving sisters Connie, Juliet and Susie; his ex-wife Marilynn and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles graduated from Serra High School in Gardena, CA in 1959 where he excelled in track. He went on to receive an AA degree from Antelope Valley Jr. College in 1975 and his Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco in 1982. His professional career started with LAPD in 1963 where he became a vice squad officer before retiring. After retiring from the LAPD he worked for DMV where he retired as a Supervising Special Investigator in 1988. Charles took great pride in his law enforcement career and considered it an honor to be a peace officer. He was taken from us too soon and will be sadly missed. A graveside service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery located at 5835 W. Slauson Ave. in Culver City, CA on November 12, 2011 at 1:30 pm.

Chad, Brad and the Canez family,

I was shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of Chuck.
I had the honor and pleasure to work with your dad during his career at DMV's Division of Investigations.
We soon became friends after we first worked together and discovered we both shared a "family first" philosophy and enjoyed sharing family stories, milestones and events.
We also shared many a tear over personal losses and tragedies.
Chuck was always there for me, even after he retired and our visits and conversations became less routine.
I last spoke with Chuck a couple months ago with our conversation turning into a trip down "memory lane". Little did I know it would be the last time I would hear Chuck say "hey babe, how's it goin!" and have him end our conversation with his familiar "I love ya babe!".
I will always have fond memories of great times together with Chuck and hope and pray similar memories will help ease your pain over the loss of your dad.
If you look up the definition of "class" in the dictionary I'm sure it will say "see Chuck Canez"!

My sincerest condolences,

Vito Scattaglia

I apologize for not being able to attend the services and offer my sympathy and condolences in person, but I am out of town for my niece's wedding.
